receiving love poetry and driver's licenses

Today has been a pretty freaking awesome day.

This morning, I woke up bright and early-like and went to work to do some fabulous in-service training. Which was okay. Except for how ridiculously cold we all got. It wasn't that the water was cold, or that the air was cold. It was that, combined, the water and the air were cold enough. We were all shivering while we were backboarding, and chattering while we were compact entering. It was slightly in the ridiculous category.

However, while getting hypothermia while all knowing how to treat hypothermia, it was still fun to get into the water again and feel like I was doing something. And I got paid. So... bonus points there.

Anyhow, after training for four and a half hours, I drove back home, wearing the only clothing I had that would fit [meaning my long-ish tank top and my boots.] And, of course, halfway back I got a crazy bad hunkering for some Redvines. So, forgetting that I was barely clothed, I drove to the grocery store, hair still dripping. I got out of the car where, surprise, it was slightly windy and kind of brisk outside. That was great. And I was still half clothed.

But, I disregard all of that and waltz into the grocery store, grab a pack of licorice, and mosey over to the counter, pay, and mosey back to my car, clutching my ribcage and my Redvines for warmth.

This is where things take a turn for the awesome.

There's this one particular guy who works at the grocery store that I'm absolutely dreamy over. I've flirted with him back and forth, yada yada yada, and generally admired him from aisle 5. Anyhow, so, while I'm shivering my way to the car, I encounter said particular guy. We talk for a little while, I offer him a Redvine and my phone number, and what does he do? He hands me a poem! Specifically, a few verses of "Child of the Pure Unclouded Brow" from "Through the Looking Glass."

Uh, what? I was completely blown away. Not only was I receiving poetry, which already had me swept away, but poetry from the book that I based my novel off of. And, Cutie McChecker boy doesn't know that I had written a novel on Alice. Talk about strange and wonderful coincidences, right? I believe this is a fabulous omen for whatever may come with him.

Moving on past the highlight, I then came home and spent far too long rinsing chlorine out of my hair while belting out showtunes, enjoyed my Redvines, and generally fucked around.

After a while, my mom came into my room and offered to take me down to get some coffee. Which, I mean, how do you refute that? So, I went down with her and got some coffee, and she said, "Let's stop by the post office." Okay.

So we go to the post office, and lo and behold! My official driver's license has arrived a week before schedule! Now I have an official California license, with my lovely face on it and everything. Voila.

To summarize: thank you, World. You've done me well today.
