Here I am, I'm still on the Banks Peninsula, at least until Tuesday, when I plan to head down to Dunedin. I just wanted to give a shout out to Christchurch, which has risen enormously in my estimation after last night's outing with Ben to see some performances of the
World Buskers Festival, which is currently taking place in Christchurch. And it was fantastic! We went to a sort of showcase, one of which, with varying performers, is on every night...and saw in total 6 different acts by buskers, who are I guess technically, "street performers", though not in this context, ranging from stand up comedy, to extreme body distortion (like putting your entire body through a tennis racket frame), to dancing, to street mime...I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and it just got me wondering - Christchurch is such a good size city for this kind of thing, because there's not too many people, there's an intimacy to the shows, but they are really well attended...why doesn't our fair city i.e. Cincinnati, think of doing something like this? I mean it's not for lack of talent - tons of Americans are represented at the festival. It brings people together to laugh, and see the absurd, and don't we all need a bit more of that in our lives?
