We were supposed to have our first read through for Almost, Maine last night. Larry, the director posted in the Facebook group yesterday that due to unforeseen circumstances they are rescheduling the first read through for next Tuesday. I'm pretty positive this is because of Charles being arrested last week, 5th OWI. I looked him up on WI ccap and his previous OWI was in 2014, he's had some speeding tickets since then too. It's too easy to vilify people for the choices they make, too easy to only see someone being irresponsible with his life and the lives of others. It's easy to dismiss them as trash human beings who don’t deserve to be out among the rest of us. But like, we've all done it, drove when we've been drinking or drove when we knew we shouldn't have. Where's the line? Who am I to judge?
I don't know much about his story, I don't know if he has a problem with alcohol, or uses it to self-medicate, or if he just made a poor call. I do know he can sing really well, has a rich voice but can also sound very sweet. He can act, hero and villain characters, complex and simple characters. He loves his dogs and cat so much. I was excited to act with him in the play, I feel like he will be able to help me improve my skills. I hope we still get that opportunity.
He's a member of the board for Wausau Community Theatre - which is way less stuffy than it sounds. The board is basically a bunch of volunteers that run things, make the decisions, and work out the problems that come up with running a non-profit. I'm pretty sure there is a meeting this Thursday, I wonder what will come of it. Not sure if there is a code of conduct in place for the board that will determine Charles unfit to serve on the board, or if it is left up to the other members to determine what should happen. If anything? I guess I am just excited to get to know him better, and hope I still get to.
