I've just been trying to help improve the
Glossary from the Alice in Wonderland wiki, and I'm wondering where all the terms come from. Are they in one of the art books or something? I want to know sources, so I can cite them; as well, some of the definitions are confusingly vague.
Most of my editing was to add words explained by Humpty Dumpty in Through the Looking-Glass, and to expand a few definitions I was sure of. As well, to sort of clean it up and correct grammar and some formatting issues. I'd like help, as the glossary is one of the main sources for making authentic Underlandish dialogue, and I don't personally have any of the books associated with the film.
Also, hi. I'm kind of a late comer to fandom, having been embroiled in family drama of the worst kind while the film was in the cinema (coincidentally, it did involve madness and asylums. Funny how that works). I only just got to watch it last week, and was very surprised to find how much I adored it. I'm working on a multi-part fanfic right now, that I'm very excited (and scared) to post here.
My name is Melanthios, by the way. I'm of the male persuasion (I say this because I know my name doesn't give much of a clue unless you know Greek), and the first poem I memorised was the Jabberwocky (I was nine); Alice is one of my 'holy trinity' of heroines from my childhood (the other two being Wendy Darling and Sara Crewe). What else...? Oh! I do nanowrimo every year, and would like to point everyone dissatisfied with ff.net to
Archive of Our Own, which allows all ratings, all works (fanfic and otherwise), and uses a tagging system that guarantees you can categorise your fanfic, no matter how obscure the fandom. I'm not being paid to advertise this site, I just... I really, really like it. A lot. I've been looking for a site like this for years. ANYWAY, sorry about the rambling. I'm a little nervous.
