Since I moved to the states there has been one thing that won’t stop bugging me and that is...there is nothing here to make the perfect grilled cheese sandwich with. The breads here are all the same, were back in Canada, since it's so multicultural, you had Starskey European store, best bread EVER baked fresh every day. Then there was the havarti cheese, good luck finding that in Florida, it's like...digging for gold in a dead mine and when you do find it it’s in Sam's Club and its bitter and thick. The grillers all seem to be the same, and I bought three already. They burn the outside, leaving all the cheese cold as a witch's tit, honestly, but I can deal with that, pan and spatula, just like the olden times. Also, I like to add tomato paste, which borders the sandwich from grilled cheese to pizza land, but I love it...the bread here, it somehow gets soggy from PASTE, so I can't really use it, or when I do it has to be a crazy small amount. Now, why am I being such an asshole over grilled cheese and blaming a part of a country that in reality is not to blame or here to serve only me, well, grilled cheese sandwiches have been my favorite since I was a kid. One of my first foods memories, aside from the near death experience with milk, was eating a cheesy grilled cheese and it was delicious. I miss it...I crave it, I want it!
And that's me dedicating an entire post to grilled cheese sandwiches!
Love!Alice.
