DGM 213
DGM 213 came out today.
Good to know that I still can't tell what the fuck is happening in Hoshino's art (no matter what the style).
I really only care about the last ten pages or so, because I've never cared about the Cardinal or whatever that thing is supposed to be, mostly because I can't comprehend her fucking art and it seems that I can make do without the aspect of the story so far, so eh.
But.
HOWARD MOTHERFUCKING LINK.
My feelings for him have been all over the place since he was first introduced, but I've always liked him, for whatever reason. I mean, his devotion to Levellier (this is how I pronounce his name in my head, okay?) seems sincere, but I honestly don't think he wants to hurt Allen, either. Like, before? I could see him killing Allen if the 14th awoke, because it was his job and Allen was nothing but an assignment. But now? His face when he asked LV (Levellier, not Lord Voldemort) if he was going to have to kill Allen is proof enough that at this moment? He doesn't want to, and so he won't.
I don't know how he feels about the 14th. Understandably, he seemed shocked when LV ordered him to help him, but I don't know if that's because of the thing itself, or because that means giving up on Allen (or both).
Like Kanda, I can't help but think that Link will do what he can to save Allen first, keeping his other orders in the back of his mind (because some part of him is still loyal to LV and Crow and he's keeping his options open, still weighing the possibilities of various courses of action open to him) in case everything goes to shit.
But. That leads me to believe that he's lying to LV, or at least not being clear with his true intentions. Getting ordered to go off and be with Allen serves his personal plans beautifully, so of course he makes it seem like he's 100% loyal and goes off without complaint.
Bottom line, though, I still don't know where he falls, or what part he'll play. If it turns out that he really is "sickly devoted" to LV and will do whatever he/Crow orders, then I will be heartbroken and everything will suck, but I will not regret having loved him from day one. I am excited to see where all of this is going: his reunion with Allen (y u no give us that, Hoshino?) will hopefully shed a little more light on all of this. And I will continue to hope that he goes full on awol and joins Allen and Kanda and proves everyone wrong and saves the world, nbd.
NOW. KANDA.
Everyone is, of course, freaking the fuck out about Kanda's "I'll be the one to kill him" line, but I think it's fairly obvious what he means, and it's nothing surprising. Kanda swore to protect Allen, so that's what he's doing. He doesn't trust anyone else to judge when it's too late to save Allen, or when nothing else can be done. He will be the one to make that call, and, if that time ever comes, he will be the one to take care of it.
He's not going to let anyone else near Allen out of fear or worry that they will make Kanda unable to fulfill his vow to save Allen, and he will kill anyone who tries to do so. He doesn't care anymore about anything or anyone else, so he will do this last thing with single-minded intensity. Simple as that. Not really much else to say about it.
Aaand those are most of my immediate feelings. Flashback arc is beginning, I guess, but I don't really care until it happens, so I don't have speculations. I thought maybe it was Allen's parents before they abandoned him, but I've seen people speculate that it's Neah, and that makes more sense (especially seeing as no one fucking has parents).
Last thoughts? In my WIP meme entry, I had expressed concern that this chapter might Joss the shit out of the Alma/Kanda/Allen feelings fic I'm writing. IT DIDN'T. NOT EVEN A LITTLE. If anything, this chapter confirms everything I've been predicting and sets up that fic of mine even better than before.
