I say you've been in fandom nearly too long (although no length is too long!) when you're actually dissapointed after finding out that two characters you ship aren't siblings, like you hoped thought. I mean, I actually like the ship a lot less now that I know they're not brother and sister. There wasn't even anything in the book to highly suggest that they were; I just sort of hoped they were.
Incidentally, has anyone else read The Forest of Hands and Teeth or The Dead-Tossed Waves? If not, I totally recommend them! I didn't like the second one as much as the first, but there were definitely aspects of the second one which I loved (the Soulers, for instance, because c'mon, there has GOT to be some freaky religious stuff going on in that world) and I really enjoyed the throwbacks to the first once they started moving through the paths. And there's lots of fandom/shipping material, which is always a plus.
The characters I was talking about are Gabry and Elias, of course. They had so much more chemistry than Gabry and Catcher (although I like them together, too) from the start, and before Gabry left, the only thing that really kept me reading was Elias. As he was looking for someone (I assumed his sister) and we didn't really know Gabry's history at that point, I was like, "Yay! He's looking for her! But they're going to fall in love with each other before they realize it. Yay!" And then that never happened; and I was sad. I still like them together, though, and there's still quite an emotional tangle there, so that's good to work with still, at any rate. But imagine if they were related! It would be so much better!
BUT SRSLY, INCEST, STOP TAKING OVER MY LIFE. One of my RL friends asked me a while ago if I had any ships that weren't incest (because the only ones I really ever talk about are) and while I do, it took some thought to come up with any substantial amount of them. I counted how many of my ships were, and I came up with something like 20+ of them.
Personally, I blame (thank?!) HP for getting me started on that shit.
On a completely unrelated note, it is SO FRIGGEN HOT OUT, OMG.
ALSO, I am still requesting icon requests!
