I went back to University, (UR college) at age 42 when I retired from the cops. The academic requirements were predictably tough, and concentrating for long periods on unfamiliar material was initially intimidating.
Noting that I had spent some years being a figure of authority, where quite naturally, people all around looked to me for decisions and answers.....it was quite a shock to be among young people who couldn't give a toot about telling me when I was even half-way wrong. As 90% of them were 18, they knew every damn thing anyway. I was at first puzzled, then amused as I got used to it. They weren't really right or wrong in their prognostications, but somewhat like Republicans on AM radio, utterly positive.
It was very exciting and occasionally more thrilling than I wanted it to be, they seemed willing to try anything headlong into the mouth of the devil to get a rush.
I'm very interested in your upcoming experiences, if you ever get time to related them.
Other than that, the very best of luck. Have FUN, don't fall in love, no matter how tempting and glorious it may feel at the time!
Older, and sometimes wiser,
brendan
