I'M BACK! YAY!

I know, I know, you've all been missing me dreadfully. IT'S ALRIGHT, FLIST, I AM SAFE AND I STILL LOVE YOU.

So, I read Storm Of Swords while I was away.

[Spoilers for Storm Of Swords]
Holy crap! Did everyone die in that one? I knew Joffrey and Robb were coming (yay for one, sad face for the other), but, Jesus, it was like GRRM thought "I have too many characters, this is all getting too tricky to keep track of. MASS DEATHS FOR THE WIN!"

I kind of liked Tywin (as a character not as a person), mainly because I saw the show first, and I have a thing for Charles Dance. But I wasn't exactly heartbroken when he died. Was shocked though.

Am annoyed that I'm starting to like Jaime. Not sure when that happened. I ALSO DEMAND MORE BRIENNE. BRIENNE SEEMS TO BE THE ONLY CHARACTER WITH ANY SEMBLENCE OF MORAL DECENCY GUIDING HER.

Also, my love for Sansa only grows more and more with every chapter.

There was a moment when I thought they were going to name Sam as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch. I kinda would have approved of that. I was still happy they went with Jon though. I'm liking Jon more and more as I go. Also, really liked the choice he had to make, about becoming a Lord Of Winterfell, being a Stark and not a Snow, having everything he wanted, but still choosing to stay with the Night's Watch, even though he didn't know he was going to be put in charge, and thought it was going to go to someone who despised him and would probably have him killed. That was very Ned-like of him.

As I mentioned before, in the UK, they split Storm Of Swords into two books, so technically, I only read the second half of the book while I was away, even though I read a book from cover to cover. It's probably because it was only meant as one book that I found part one (Steel And Snow) to be actually kind of a chore to get through, because nothing really seemed to happen. Blood And Gold (part two) was much more fun and engaging. Steel And Snow took me weeks to read, because it just felt like Things To Do, instead of something enjoyable, so I was really glad when Blood And Gold took me back to the way I devoured A Clash Of Kings.

I'm not sure why, but I found the Red Wedding really upsetting. Not even the wedding itself, but the descriptions after of what the Freys did to the Starks' bodies, Robb's in particular. The image of them cutting his head of and replacing it with Grey Wind has just left me feeling really disturbed, even now, a couple of days later.

On the brighter side, when I got to Joffrey's death (which, as I mentioned, knew was coming and had told The Boyfriend that should I start cheering, that would be why), I immediately played Celebrations and danced around the hotel room. The Boyfriend joined in. It was pretty awesome.

Finally, the last bit, with Lysa saying that she was the one who killed Jon Arryn? Holy fuck, did not see that coming.
