So this morning I discovered that you can email the pope at the following address : benedictxvi AT vatican.va
How awesome is that?
So anyway, I reckon we should try and get Dio made a saint. He could be saint of Heavy Metal or something.
Here's my email to The Pope:
Dear Pope Benedict XVI,
I hope you continue to live.
I would like to bring to your attention the life and work of a great and talented man, who has recently died. His name was Ronnie James Dio, and he was a singer.
He was especially popular with young men in the nineteen eighties, especially for his epic storytelling and compositions.
If I may, I would like to quote one of his lyrics:
"Holy Diver, you've been down too long in the midnight sea,
O, what's becoming of me?
Ride the tiger, you can see his stripes but you know he's clean,
O, don't you see what I mean?"
Clearly a reference to the stripes of Christ, when he was flagellated prior to his crucifiction (by which we are saved).
Additionally, he is credited with popularising the \m/ gesture, which as you may know is a traditional Italian hand sign to ward off evil spirits.
Now, millions of young people around the world know this gesture and every day, without even knowing of its significance, are doing the Lord's work.
It is said by some that Dio was an occultist, or a Satanist, or a bad influence on the youth. These are all lies or misrepresentations by those who were jealous of his success or who did not take the time to properly observe or understand his work.
I would like to suggest that he has performed a miracle, by using the *image* of Satan, the Devil, to do the work of God.
If you have never visited a Heavy Metal music concert I would be happy to accompany you and ensure your safety, and answer any questions you may have.
Please say a prayer for Ronnie James Dio, as he is surely enjoying a quick journey through purgatory as we speak.
Yours sincerely,
Alias Robert Cummins
p.s. I have published this letter so that my petition can be seen by other people. I hope you don't mind.
