The comic's fallen off the world again (i think it has a lot to do with work, given i took over the department and went full-time about the same time WGMD went off the rails), I'm trying to get myself back in shape to work on it, so I'm trying to sketch and meta a bit to put me in the right frame of mind. And I figured, what the hell, Month of Pride, why not focus on that portion of the cast?
the only problem is it's taken me so long to get these sketches done that i only have a week left for the other two, so let's see if i can't make this work
Anyway, let's start off with Ronno.
This is Ron McIntyre. He's a full-time musician, playing lead guitar and sometimes vocals for his band, the Family Jewels. He's 28 and lives in Kriner. If the shirts I keep drawing on him are any indication, he's a fan of Marc Bolan. And, yeah, he's gay.
I won't lie, Ronno's strictly supporting cast. He can be hotheaded and can prolly throw a good punch, but the kind of work the Disciples do is definitely outside his range. That said, he still plays a prominent role in Carlisea and Chey's campaign against Dionysus.
and full disclosure, these three sketches are the first time i've drawn him, which you might can see in the inconsistency as i get used to what his face looks like
So why should you care about Ronno?
Because he's James' boyfriend.
did i ever mention James was bi? i might've neglected that
(and i can't look at that picture without seeing problems! Ronno's face bugs me, and there's the lazy mitt-hands)
When I'd first come up with him, Ronno was just James' best friend who had a band James'd sing with sometimes. He was meant to be the Mick Ronson to James' David Bowie (really, i don't think i was very subtle about that part). Somewhere along the way, the idea he might be gay came up, but with a lot of dumb and awful ideas I'd decided were dumb and awful. When it dawned on me that James was bi, taking their relationship another step felt a little obvious.
I've played with the idea of making his stage name Ron Diamond, to preserve the original pun of the band name Family Jewels, and because the idea Ronno takes James' last name on-stage is absolutely adorable. I dunno.
One thing to note, while James learned English from Feather, he definitely picked up his East End accent from Ronno.
I don't know Ronno all that well just yet, but I've got a good idea of how he'd react to most situations, but he definitely deserves more thought.
He'd prolly make his debut in chapter seven.
So, uh, hopefully I can get enough drawing done to make more of these?
