hello.
having been tasked to "spread the word" about this, i am back on ellejay after a long pause! rehearsals have been utter insanity, as most of the flist can guess, so i think there's no need to elaborate. come watch the play, if you haven't already gotten tickets! YOU. MUST.
i've copied the email that was sent to me below (with minor edits), which explains why it's in two parts: the first is a message and the next is the official info bit.
so, to the many people i know lazing around at home, consider giving this a go! the point is to get people involved and aware, so if you're thinking "but HIV/AIDS has nothing to do with me", then you are part of the target group.
SYINC is organising an online digital media project, where we're getting young people to talk about AIDS and challenging the stigma around it - through creative expression. We're using blogspot, facebook, and youtube - so you can guess the various modes of participation we're encouraging from all kinds of people.
This is basically an online/digital media initiative to use innovative ways to get young people talking and sharing about HIV/AIDS - on their own terms. 2 main parts:
• A blog (
http://wadupsg.wordpress.com/ )
• A video/doco submission. Youtube as submission platform, mirrored on website above.
There is also an interesting twist to this: An online skype dialogue with an up-and-coming filmmaker in Singapore - Sherman Ong. He has committed to supporting our project and taking 2 hours out to talk to people interested in submitting a video clip (could be made using even handphones). So, participants will be able to ask Sherman questions, from anything about film and film technique to Sherman himself, where he draws inspiration from, etc.
This date would be this Sat 10am - 12pm on skype, which is 4 days before deadline for video clips to enter a competition (yeah, the Sony Ericsson and all). So, the clinic will be an opportunity for participants to refine and finetune their ideas/technique etc. Essentially this is an informal Q&A where Sherman's experience can benefit those trying to tell their story.
The first thing you can do is to go on facebook and
Join the cause and start inviting people like crazy!

WAD Up! 2007
Project Compound Eyes
WAD Up! is an innovative online multimedia initiative looking at HIV/AIDS through the eyes of young people in Singapore. Using web2.0 tools like Facebook and Youtube, it combines the technology of digital media, the creativity of artistic expression, and the power of personal experience - to tell our own stories about AIDS. In conjunction with World AIDS Day, 1 Dec 2007.
WHY
- To raise awareness of HIV/AIDS among Singapore youth
- To challenge stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS and HIV+ individuals ( PLWHA)
- To engage young people to talk about AIDS on their own terms
WHAT WERE WE THINKING
The theme 'Compound Eyes' is inspired by the idea of HIV as viewed from many lenses: Not only from different individuals, but also the multiple lenses we see the world from - mother, son, lover, confidante, friend. The stories of these individuals, as told from their own lenses, will be showcased through the WAD Up! blog.
