I really wanted a horse.
so i got one.
INFACT i got two.
it all started when i saw an ad for leasing a horse and after debating for a while i decided why not, because leasing is cheaper and I only have to do it by the month versus buying a horse for a lifetime.
SO I end up calling the lady who was very, very nice and I went out to go meet her, her horses and see the barn.
It was an absoloutly gorgeous barn,
!THE BARN! . It's only about 25 minutes away.
The lady, Sharon, owned 5 horses. She had three up for lease. Two were ex- polo horses and the other was her eventer.
I'm now leasing the two polo horses (for the price of one). Both of them weren't being ridden and she was just looking for somebody to exercise them. I guess she has some health issues so I get lucky ;). I get full use of her tack and we hit it off pretty great. She even lent me a pair of her chaps that dont fit her anymore. And now I get to use the ridiculous amount of horse stuff i bought off ebay thats hanging out in my room.
The two horses I'm riding are Cheyenne and Gouache(sp? it's after a chinese dumpling). Cheyenne is a blue roan complete with a dorsal stripe and banding and blaze. While Gouache is a palomino. Both are complete sweethearts and I rode them yesterday and today. I've been riding in the ring- just walk, trot and today Sharon and I rode them outside on the road for a bit after we did some ring work together.
One of the main reasons I wanted to lease was because I really wanted to experience of being able to ride all the time versus only once or twice a week with lessons. I know the basics and did some jumping but haven't ridden consistently in years so I know I'm more than rusty. But, Sharon said that I had a really great seat and light hands so I felt better- but I know it's going to take quite a bit to get back to where I was. She said once I'm ready she'd be happy to let me ride her eventer mare - a gorgeous (and HUGE) dutch warmblood that I would kill to have as my own. She let me pop on her for a sec today and my goodness that horse had power. She's a whole different ride from the other horses I've been on.
In fact both of the ones that I'm riding are much more sesitive that any horse I have ever ridden before. Example:
The horses I rode at Sugarloaf had to be pushed to keep trotting with every step, I'm talking a more then a squeeze of the legs, a good nudge with the heel at every stride. All these guys need is the slighest pressure on their sides and they pick up the pace. It's NICE.
Anyway, I'm just really glad to be back in the saddle and I can't wait to get some pictures and enjoy riding on the trails and hacking around in the ring. I would be riding in the morning with means it's nice and quiet which gives me time to concentrate.
my ass and inner thighs kill from riding. I'm going to have jacked thighs in the summer. hah.
