No words from me from a while.
Eh.
Been up to a lot.
Not been up to much.
Plugging. In a place where a slight misstep may ruin my scholastic career, but I can take it. I'm here for a reason.
I've always known that my degree wouldn't ever be so useful, but the more conversations I've had on the topic of psychology I've come to the conclusion that not only is it useless, it's only barely even science. We basically pretend to know why people do what they do, and have no sure way to implement the few things we actually know to work. Dr. Phil has it pretty damned easy.
Here's a nice tidbit about psychology ;common knowledge' culled from experiment less than a century ago:
We have all heard the adage that we, humans, only use 10% of our brains, right?
People use this to demonstrate the unlimited capabilities of every person that they may never comprehend, to urge someone closer toward greatness.
Know how they got that ten per cent?
They (the experimenters) had this fine grid simulating the surface of the human brain, with squares of about half a centimeter. They took a metal rod, whose tip was roughly the same size as the gridded squares, and systematically poked the surface of the brain of a living man, the top of whose skull was removed (speculations are the man was a death row prisoner, but really, when one needs a brain to poke, how hard to you need to look?). So about 10% of the time that they poked the man's brain, his body moved, usually in spasmodic jitters.
And yet, grown people who know that many portions of the brain are specifically linked with certain actions and behaviors, packing in more sensory equipment than a warehouse full of expensive robots, believe that they still have Ninety per cent of their potential yet to fulfill.
And people wonder why we have a depression problem in this country...
I could continue on in this vein for a while, but I'll drop it. Point made. A major in psychology just presents multiple opportunities to get into useless and unresolved arguements.
I guess I'll have more to say later. I got free pesto pizza to eat.
