Pronoun/title/adjective meme

Apr 23, 2020 09:11

As in, "what I think of these pronouns/titles/adjectives as applied to me"

Mostly because I find it interesting to think about, as long as people make a general attempt to treat me in a gender neutral way I'm happy.

It/its: Nope
She/her: No, though I am resigned to strangers using them.
He/him: Happens so rarely it's a kind of enjoyable novelty, but otherwise as bad as she/her.
They/them: That's me!
Neopronouns: I don't think I've ever experienced this, but I'm generally fine with anything implying 'person whose pronouns I don't know', and would be a bit 'that's not me?" for anything else. Not dysphoric just...it would be like being called by the wrong name.

Mr: Similar to he, it's a funny novelty when companies call me this, but not actually correct.
Mx: Acceptable if necessary.
Miss: Nope. I grimace and bear it a lot from, like, my chemist.
Mrs: A little more annoying than Miss: I used to be a 'Miss' so it feels like an annoying throw-back, but I have NEVER been a Mrs. And if someone knows I'm married they presumably also know I have a doctorate.
Ms/Ma'am: About equivalent to Miss.
Sir: An even funnier novelty.
Mistress: Noooooope
Captain: Not offensive, but inaccurate!
Dr: YES. THIS IS MY ACTUAL TITLE. I DIDN'T SPEND SIX YEARS AT EVIL MATHEMATICS SCHOOL TO BE A MRS.

Pal, buddy, friend, comrade, folks, etc: Sure.
Dude, bro, bruh: Eh.
Sis: Nope. My brother sometimes forgets and calls me this, and I mostly just let it go, but I wish he wouldn't.
Sib: Just from actual siblings.
Boi: No?
Boy: Probably not, unless it was clearly 'you are a boy amongst other things'
Girl: No
Lady/ladies: NOPE
Terms of Endearment (hon, sweetie, darling): Only from partners
“Feminine” compliments (pretty, beautiful, etc): Only if I am clearly trying to look pretty.
“Masculine” compliments (handsome, etc): Maybe? Depends on where my gender feels are at.
Neutral compliments (cute, attractive, cool, etc): All good, although for all of these I can be a bit uncomfortable with most people I'm not in a relationship with if they come across as flirty. I am weirdly uptight for a poly person lol.

And an extra one:
-san: Acceptable, assuming you're speaking Japanese haha. Google translates my pixiv emails as starting with "Mr sqbr", but I checked and it's actually "sqbr-san", which I get a non-binary weeb kick out of. I mean sqbr-sensei would be more accurate but at least it's not, like, sqbr-chan.
