Youtubers Breaking Games Amusingly
Recently I've found myself enjoying Youtube videos where people deliberately push games to their limits or actively go against the intended gameplay in amusing ways. More recs definitely appreciated.
All of these are gamer dudes who can sometimes be unfortunate but they're mostly good natured and I've never seen them, like...randomly shout slurs or anything. You don't need to have played the relevant games but it adds an extra layer of enjoyment.
My strongest rec:
Monster Factory: Griffin and Justin McElroy see how far they can break character creators, then set these creations loose on the game world. They make an active effort to be inclusive and good natured, but sometimes stumble into ableist subtext when laughing at "weird" looking characters.
The other two are patchier. Also pretty mean to pixel people, something I'm only sometimes in the mood for.
Let's Game it Out: A guy called Josh is as awful at the goal of the game as possible, causing as much suffering to the pixel characters as he can. I was introduced via I Built a Theme Park of Perpetual Torment in Planet Coaster which involves a truly inspired series of increasingly byzantine methods for hitting theme park attendees with roller coasters.
Call me Kevin: More just humourous Let's Plays with a "let's see what I can do with this" slant. He made some unfortunate jokes about gender in one video that weren't actively transphobic but took the fun out of it for me. But Animal Crossing but I ruin the neighborhood was pretty fun.
Also, I feel like Brian David Gilbert's surreal analysis videos fit in here somehow. Like...actually making and eating the food from a game in real life feels like the other side of the coin from using a cooking game to make the worst possible food, you know?
