Free Narrative Game Extravaganza!

I decided to poke at some more of the games in my unplayed folders. A mix of m/f and f/f romance, comedy, and just plain weird.

Note: I get annoyed at the music and turn it off in pretty much every game I play which is why I never review that >.>

Not Romance:

Chook and Sosig A really great little charmingly dark New Zealand comedy about a talking cat and his ghost chicken friend. There's a whole series of these games but I haven't played the others yet. The art is fantastic, too, very unique and expressive.

The Shape on the Ground: a strange walking sim where you find and look at odd tableaus. Atmospheric and metaphorical though I'm not sure what the metaphor is actually saying.

Jojo's Diner A short science fiction story about being a young employee of a space diner, name and pronouns chosen by the player. Some travellers come through and you can befriend them and join their crew. The art is pretty bad and the writing was patchy but it was cute enough. I only played the one ending, so don't know what else can happen.

Romance:

Why Is This Dragon So Fucking Cute A cute, short, light f/f romance between a dragon hunter and the (very anthropomorphic) dragon she's been hired to fight.

Re:Alistair: A m/f dating sim about a hot-headed girl trying to track down the guy at her high-school who screwed her over in an online game. I quite liked one of the romances (shy sweetie Shiro) but the other two were fine for what they were but didn't click for me. I tried and got bored of this years ago, this time when I started getting frustrated I looked up a walkthrough and it's a lot more fun that way, otherwise it's too easy to alienate everyone and have zero interesting interactions. The art and writing were adequate.

Love on the Peacock Express A f/f dating sim where a plucky detective helps (and romances) various older women on a train journey. I only played one route (the cold business woman) and it was a bit self-consciously ironic for me with more emphasis on snarky flirting than actual romance.

Essence demo A post apocalyptic m/f dating sim. I didn't get very far in before going "Why did I download this?" and stopping. It's not terrible, but a bit Edgy and Snarky for my tastes and I don't like post apocalyptic settings.

Memoirs of An Angel A m/f romance fantasy visual novel. The heroine is an angsty war criminal who is also an angel, which is certainly something, but it was too much Fantasy Cheese for me. There's an newer game by the same people called "Memoirs of an Angel: Legends", I can't figure out if it's a remake or sequel.
