To complete the set I also signed up for
Writscrib, another attempt to cross the best bits of tumblr and lj. I'm
sqbr there as well. It's in open beta.
They have an actual income stream, which is something, via paid accounts and the ability to send people tokens that can be swapped for money, as well as paid gift art.
I am finding it a little unintuitive. Overall, like Pillowfort, it has some nice features but is lacking some features I am strongly missing, though not the same features.
I joined a bunch of (mostly very quiet) communities and there doesn't seem to be any way to read a stream of their recent posts. My settings say I'll be "notified", which is something.
Making posts is very simple in a tumblr-y way. You can lock posts to mutuals, or to a custom set of friends, though the interface for custom locks seemed painfully clunky. There doesn't seem to be any way to mark posts as unrebloggable, though I'm assuming locked posts can't be reblogged. Comments aren't threaded.
You can subscribe to keywords which would be cooler if tags had been implemented, but it seems to work pretty well just based on searching for words in posts. There's no blacklist feature. EDIT: You can use hashtags a la twitter.
While the site is very quiet the people seem friendly and similarly creative/queer/fannish to Dreamwidth and Pillowfort. It's quieter than Pillowfort right now but afaict they were pretty similar before the recent influx of new beta Pillowfort users.
Something about the vibe reminds me of both Facebook and DeviantArt, which are not super positive connotations, but if I end up liking it that'll wear off.
I can't figure out how to add formatting/links to my posts?? This is making Pillowfort's "only rich text" option look better /o\ EDIT: BBCode!
