Dragon Age Origins: Now with mods!

Oct 15, 2017 02:19

Did I mention I started a new Dragon Age Origins playthrough with the Complete Bi Overhaul, Polygamey, and Improved Atmosphere mods? It's been great.

The first two work as expected, the only obvious relationship related inconsistency I've noticed is Morrigan and Leliana jealously sniping at each other, which is especially surreal since Leliana is the only love interest my Warden isn't interested in. I haven't noticed any sniping between the other pairs of LIs. Flirting with random women is super fun.

It's been long enough since I last played that I'm largely missing the specific Improved Atmosphere changes, but there's a few things I've noticed and liked (animals around the camp, for example) and do definitely feel a general subtle sense of things being different and a little more interesting. I sorta screwed up the installation, it all seems to mainly work...except for Jowan being headless when I came out of the Harrowing. I do not consider this a flaw :D (He had his head back by Redcliffe, alas)

I'm playing an afab non binary elf mage called Nimo Surana. I was intending to romance Morrigan and thus expected them to be pro blood magic etc, but while very anti-establishment the lesson they took from their harrowing is that demons are the worst, so they won't touch anything demon or even spirit related with a ten foot pole.

They basically see Gregor as their dad, and liked Wynne a fair bit...until she turned out to be an "abomination". They HATE the Chantry and so have not taken to Leliana. But I bring her along anyway for unlocking things and since Nimo's a soft touch for the downtrodden Leliana has fallen for her completely, it's a little awkward. Because of the poly mod she's not put off by Nimo dating Morrigan, but at some point she's going to actually ask Nimo how they feel and things will end badly.

Nimo flirted with everyone but only actually pursued Morrigan. Right now she giggles whenever they talk and gave Nimo a ring (for TOTALLY PRACTICAL reasons), but still refuses to teach them shapeshifting. Geeze, woman, just because they haven't killed your mum yet...

Zevran, like Leliana, is currently content to be a little flirtatious but otherwise isn't actively pursuing anything romantic, so I'm leaving that for now. Nimo likes him a lot but it would feel a bit gratuitous.

I wasn't planning on romancing Alistair, but he is SO CHARMING when Nimo takes the snarky but subtly encouraging approach that they ended up smitten by the rose speech. The downside to Alistair of course is that he hates Morrigan, there's no direct jealousy but it's still awkward and may lead to a breakup down the line.

They kinda like Sten for his quiet snark and lack of sentiment. They adore Shale, and I am looking forward to the extra backstory etc in Orzamarr.

They also love their dog, of course. I named him Fenharel and it amuses me every time I see the name. Perfect edgelord atheist elf name for a dog :D

I went Circle Tower (ask the old man for help with the Blight OH NO DEMONS) then Brecilian Forest (Awkward cultural connection, especially with Zevran along), and right now at am in Denerim chasing up the sacred ashes.

I am hoping to marry Anora with one or two boyfriends on the side, but will see if that feels in character when I come to it. I may have shot myself in the foot there by playing an elf. They are absolutely impregnating Morrigan, though.

I'm mostly playing on Easy with the odd excursion into Normal when things don't feel challenging enough and I want to use up some items. I have to resist the temptation to always just cast Blizzard on everyone during large fights, since the friendly fire isn't a big deal on Easy and watching everyone fall down and then get up only to become frozen is pretty satisfying.

I have the edition with all the DLCs, I am very much taking advantage of the infinite storage space of Warden's Peak but haven't returned to Ostagar yet. I have access to the Feastday Gifts for the first time but haven't wanted to use them since they kind of break the game, I haven't even been using regular gifts much. I might wait until I've finished then play around with an old save. I am curious to see how far I get into the Golems of Amgarrak, since I haven't played it before and it's apparently super hard. It'll be interesting playing a new somewhat plotty DLC after all this time. It's been a long time since I last played Leliana's Song, Witch Hunt and Awakening, so those'll be fun too.
