Another visit to Stardew Valley

Jun 08, 2016 00:33

Felt randomly inspired to play another character through Stardew Valley, and it was more fun than I expected! Knowing how everything worked made it much more relaxing, instead of feeling like I had to hoard and do ALL THE THINGS I knew what to focus on to have fun and achieve my goals.

Said goals being 1) Finish the Community Centre bundles without using a merchant 2) Marry Sebastian 3) Get the Statue of Perfection at the end of year 2.

And I achieved the last 2! But not quite the first: I didn't realise Pufferfish only showed up in Summer until it was too late, and didn't feel like waiting until the NEXT Summer when I had literally everything else. Yes, including the fish! I CAUGHT THEM MYSELF. I started out leveling up with trash and crab pots but by the end was genuinely enjoying catching easy fish without any powerups or tackle, and didn't find the other fish too tricky with them. Didn't even try catching ALL the fish, though. Just the ones I needed for the bundle.

My strategy was to work towards getting the greenhouse as quickly as possible and fill it with strawberries (and ancient fruit, once I had a seedmaker), which I managed by the middle of Spring year 2. This required spending most of my money on animals to get the relevant products, but I went for the bat cave this time so didn't have to buy any fruit trees. And the rest of my time I spent mining and fishing and doing things that gain you points with grandpa: making money, getting to the bottom of the mines, donating to the museum, making close friends, upgrading your house, selling all produce, befriending your pet.

I didn't bother befriending everyone, just everyone in the bar on Friday nights, which conveniently includes Sebastian and his parents. I did start giving everyone in town their birthday gifts in year 2, mainly so I had something to do.

I enjoyed making GOTH FARM HOUSE to suit Sebastian, and he is a pretty cute love interest. Very introverted and secretly prone to social anxiety, but sweet and enjoyably Loner Goth With Secret Soft Centre. However I was disturbed by how even when I only got to level 2 with Maru and MARRIED Sebastian, Demetrius was still all "What are your intentions with Maru", "Maru and you would have fun" etc etc. Just cos Sebastian's your stepson doesn't mean you shouldn't care about him, dude.

Also: Abigail visits Sebastian and seems to see him as a friend yet he says the main character and Sam are his only friends, aw. And Leah is SO DAMN FLIRTY, lady I am married and you're not even at that many hearts.

This time I played as a "man" but one in the prettiest outfit I could create, with pink pinktails and the name "Melody". It was so nice having noone care that I used male pronouns, looked girly, and married a man :) Felt a little weird being topless in the baths, since I was imagining Melody as afab, but MAYBE STARDEW VALLEY IS JUST OPEN MINDED.

Not sure I'll continue, I was already pretty bored and out of things to do by the end of winter. I've done most of the obvious achievements and the ones that remain don't seem very appealing, especially those I'd failed at in my last game after something like 5 years of play. Didn't get a single dinosaur egg this time ;_;

If I play again I'll make sure to catch a pufferfish in the first two years, so I know I can. And maybe marry Leah since she's so determined haha.
