Looking at the visual novel

Oct 07, 2011 18:37

Recently I've encountered a bunch of recs to works from the hs-olympics. One that stuck out for me was the very cute visual novel/game Between The Woods And Lifeless Lake or How We Spent Our Summer Vacation.

I was really impressed with their programming until I realised they were using a pre-made visual novel creator.

And then I realised there is a pre-made visual novel creator. That's free, and looks easy to use! The part of me that spent countless hours in highschool creating a complex animated hypercard game about navigating a labyrinth run by a grumpy tentacle monster is VERY EXCITED. The rest of me isn't sure I can be bothered writing a non-linear story, but I downloaded the software anyway and am having fun playing around with it. I'm sure there's lots of similar programs out there, and I've seen other simple game software before, but this seems specifically designed for people who are good at writing dialogue and drawing characters, which is me exactly.
