Thoughts on a Homestuck reread
Non spoilery thoughts: it holds up really well, a lot of stuff that made no sense to me the first time is clearer now and the timey wimey stuff fits together very cleverly. Plus, the stuff I don't like is easier to skim over (bah, ableism) I think once all the timelines have finished looping around each other I'll have to read the last Act or so again to get it straight, unless we get a nice summary with timelines or something.
I realised on the reread that the reason I stopped a few months ago was I got sick of all the exposition in the part I was up to (just after the second prototyping of John's sprite). So of course when I started again I'd forgotten it all and kept thinking "Derse? Prospit? WTF are they talking about?"
And I am slowly learning all the symbols of the zodiac! (I have always had issues with them for some reason)

The Midnight Crew intermission: still confusing. I had to look up the wiki and still don't entirely get it.
All the exiles stuff is so much sadder when you know who they all are *hugs WV and PM*
Shippy thoughts:
I was in such denial about Jade and John being siblings, I shipped them so, but on further thought they work better as close friends/siblings (I love how this comic values friendship). At this point I don't really ship anyone in a "they should be together forever and ever" way, AH pretty clearly doesn't belong to the "your first love is forever" school of writing (good!) so all I care about is that a ship is (a)not squicky and (b) fun to read. I am fairly invested in seeing Terezi/Dave play out, I am such a sucker for canonical UST, and she has the right mix of genuinely liking him but being able to bring him down a peg from time to time (plus a courtship based on sending each other snarky comics deeply appeals to me). I like the idea of Karkat/Terezi/Dave but that will never happen. This update made me like the idea of Kanaya/Karkat if Rose/Kanaya doesn't go anywhere. I am not a fan of Jade/Karkat or John/Vriska, especially since neither of them seem very into romance in general. Not that I care about this stuff *cough*
SO GLAD Jade is finally getting towards being in the Medium. The fact that she already died once (and this time her dreamself died ;_; ) makes me antsy.
I used to feel a little sad that the Sagittarius troll was such a creep, but I just realised that all the kids but John are Sagittariuses, huzzah. This makes me disproportionately happy (Have been a Sagittarius my whole life, only just realised it has two 't's)
Walkthrough for the troll flash game! (I missed Karkat's secret area and future Terezi). Also, deleted lesbian dreamsequence.
Doing the flash game in John's land the first time I didn't realise you could talk to the salamanders and missed a huge proportion of it, yes even with the map. So then with the updates later I was all "Why is this a flashback? I saw nothing like that!"
I was quite a way through before I realised that Faygo is real. I just looked up the Faygo Wikipedia page and wow, that's a lot of flavours. The US is so much better at junk food than we are. We don't even have candy corn here (we do have Betty Crocker though)
So much sadder with context.
I've been trying to keep track of events with the humans from the trolls POV. From this memo six hours after they start trolling Terezi thinks it's awesome and Karkat is disgusted. Afaict This is the most futurey page from Jon's POV and afaict this is the most futurey from Terezi and Dave's POV, it's 6 hours ahead for Terezi, three days subjective for Dave with time travel but I don't know how close he has gotten to the scratch in objective time (past it? He said he'd seen stuff Terezi hadn't). I'm not sure where the current human-POV-time is compared to that (given how fast the comic moves: this is where it's up to right now).
Things that still confuse me:
Sgrub was written by Sollux based on stuff Aradia dug up on the instructions of "her ancestors", because he thought he would save the trolls. Who made Sburb and why? Did they, like Sollux, think it would save the earth rather than destroying it? Was it Mom? Her job was (at the lab?) looking up stuff Jade's grandpa found, and there was all that Sburb related paraphernalia there. (Plus the pink bed and teaset, which…I have no idea)
How Jade's grandpa got into the Medium. I was wondering how he got into the Medium in the future then remembered it's "outside time". Plus Nanna has played Sburb before?? Or perhaps the kernelsprite did...
When exactly Dave started being able to travel through time.
What is the god's plan I wonder? Ug. Tangle buddies D: For that matter, what is Bec's plan? Is he in cahoots with Doc Scratch and Lord English? He SEEMS nicer than Doc Scratch but Jade's future visions SEEMED helpful and look how that turned out. Is the whole shebang really about making sure the kids are "worthy" to…start a new universe I guess?
Something I could do with less of in the fandom is unlabelled/uncut sexually explicit fic and art. Some of us live in countries where that sort of thing can get you arrested for childporn, or at least banned from working with children aka tutoring. (Plus it squicks me, but that is apparently not a compelling reason) Also, less ableism from both the comic and the fandom, that would be nice too.
