"Obama deserved to lose, but the country doesn't deserve the consequences." The subtitle to
this article in The New Republic says it all. I understand to a certain extent the desire to throw out as many incumbents as you can. I've got to wonder though, whether the American People as a whole actually thought about what they were voting for rather than what they were voting against. The so-called "Republican alternative" can only be described as ruinous, though "cataclysmic" has a certain appeal all its own. We've already seen what eight years of Republicans' destructive politics can do, and now, according to at least 51% of the population, the best solution is more of the same. George Carlin seems to offer the only good explanation of this bizarre phenomenon: "Just think of how stupid the average American is. Now remember, half of them are stupider than that." The stupidity seems to be spreading.
