this week in RUGBY: Scrum by the Sea- overview...goods and bads

Friday-  didn't do too much.  got some work done and then packed.  we arrived in SD around 6ish and then had, a very loud and hi-larious time, at our Chipotle's team dinner.

Saturday- Got up bright and early (5:30am...=/..).  We had 3 games that day.  Instead of the normal two 40 minute halves, it was tournament style and we played two 20 minute halves per game.

Cal- 8am -  WON (15-0)
San Jose- 11am  - WON (25-0)
Claremont (errg...they played really dirty)- 2pm - WON (10-3)

the intensity for the claremont game was palpable from the sidelines.  we tackled and kicked ass in the scrums like never before.  it was an amazing game of rugby...=).  I don't think I've ever played better.
looking at the score you should see that no team scored by crossing our try line.  the 3 points claremont got was off a penalty kick.  We have a lot of potential...

well that was the good news.

the bad news is we had a lot of injuries.  Rugby matches are funny/sad for that reason.  On Sunday almost every team had at least one girl on crutches or a moon-boot and we sadly we were no exception.  Two of our girls, one vets from last year and a rookie this year, hurt their leg.  The injuries are as follows:  one is a possible torn ACL (I'm praying for that not to be the case but that's what the physical trainers said), one was a sprain, and the other a torn ligament (but its not too bad).  In addition to those injuries we had some minor ones:  1 clearly broken finger but she kept playing and broke back in place, 1 broken finger/knuckle and 1 shoulder (which should be ok in a week).

Sunday-  because we were won all of our games saturday and got either number 1 or 2 in our bracket we had another 8am game on sunday against ASU.  We got at the pitch (it's the rugby term for field) 6:45am and it was complete overcast.  The fog was so thick that if you were standing next to one goal post and you looked down the field, you couldn't see the other goal post.  We played everything we had that game and we held them out of our try line for almost the whole first half.  But they were bigger and stronger.  We lost 18-0.  so we watched Cal play UofA and then left for LA.  We got back really quickly, like 2 hours at most.

so now i gotta do some work.  lots of things due this week.  and if i get them done then i can party of thur and fri....=).  anyone up for a LASA party thursday night at some club in LA??
