Yuletide 2014!

Oct 26, 2014 09:27

Dear Lovely Magical Yuletide Writer,

HELLO. Oh goodness!! Hello!!! I am so happy you are reading this! Thank you. A fic in any of these fandoms would make me beyond thrilled, so I am pleased that you are here. Also, please do feel free to disregard anything -- optional details are optional, and I honestly believe that! But if you wish for more details, continue on!

Some general fic notes, which may or may not be applicable depending on the fandom: Things I like: Plot. Women who like women. Emotionally resonant conversations. First kisses. First times. Laughter. Things I don't like: MPreg. Rape. Out of character sexism or gay-bashing. (It's a short list.)

Things to be aware of: I'm often found in #yuletide (the Yuletide IRC chat room) under alianne. If you are a writer who likes to internet stalk their recip, I'm really sorry that I don't have much for you to have fun with (I teach so it's important to me that fandom identity =/= RL). If there is a DC-area meetup again, I might be at that.

My Requests are (in Alphabetical Order):

The Dead Isle by Sam Starbuck (a.k.a copperbadge/theoriginalsam):
Characters: ANY (Nominated or not - I know that's not Yuletide Kosher, but if you want to write Purva go for it! I thought I nominated her, too - alas.)
LINK: http://extribulum.wordpress.com/thedeadisle/

Really the only thing I don't want in this fandom is something that takes them out of their world (so, no Jack and Clare find a portal into the Ghost Soup 'verse where Purva is the Captain of the ship and Ellis is the robot butler) (lies, if you write that I would be thrilled). Other than that, you can't go wrong!! Any plot, any rating.

I love Jack and Clare and Jack/Purva and Clare/Ellis and Jack/Ellis and in my head there might be a little Clare/Purva going on on the side. The only thing I do not really ship is Clare/Jack, though if that is your OTP and what you want to write I could totally go for their first kiss/first relationship experimentation thing.

OR HEY GENFIC. I love genfic too! Let's talk about those nights on the Airship. Or builing the Airship. Or Clare at Cambrige. Or more on Creationism. What about Murna? After the revolution?

I have read this story from almost the beginning and in my head still often call it Jack and Ellis. I have read it more times than most things. Feel free to explore and use anything and if your headcanon was cut from the final draft that's totally okay because I will know what you are talking about! I love Dead Isle. Just have fun :)

Emelan (World) by Tamora Pierce
Characters: Daja, Sandry, Tris, or Briar.
Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circle_of_Magic

I would like it to be character-centric, but which of the four is up to you. I've read all the books in this series, so any characters you pick/use are fine with me. If you would like to pair anyone together romantically - with each other or with OC's or with canon others - the only thing I request you avoid is intergenerational (NO Briar/Rosethorn, etc). Thank you!

This series was my first fandom love back before I knew what fandom was. So first and foremost, please stay relatively true to the canon, or at least make the decisions come from the canon. If that makes sense. Anyway, I would love a story centric to one of the four of the circle, at any point in their lives. But if I had to pick:

For Daj', I would like something about her realizing that she likes women. How does that effect her life now that she's moving back to Emelan? I would love to see her starting another relationship. Or talking with Lark/Rosethorn. Sandry is my favorite, and I can't tell you why, but it's something about her stubbornness and sense of righteousness. Anything, really, so long as it fits with her character: taking over the Duke's estate, raising her children, her marriage, her early childhood. I would be interested in Sandry/Daja if you are, and although I don't think it would work out for them for life we don't need to necessarily see that part of the relationship. For Tris, I would love to see her find love and companionship. It doesn't need to be romantic love although reciprocated romantic love would make me so happy, but I would love to see Tris being able to have that. And Briar, bless him, I would like to see coming to terms with Gyongxe - and yes, I do see this as PTSD so it might be a little more medical research than you want to do for a Yuletide! - or helping/interacting with Evvy, or again, finding love.

Also: even though I mention romance all over up there, I honestly think this is the one fandom where I am so very much invested in the platonic relationships and just the interactions, possibly because I began reading when I was ten. I love TP's worldbuilding. Love.

Obernewyn by Isobelle Carmody
Characters: ANY (Merret, Blyss, Dragon, Matthew)
LINK: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obernewtyn_Chronicles

**I am not finished with this series and do not want spoilers.** I have only read through the AMERICAN EDITION of The Sending. If this changes, I will certainly update here first. Anyway, I understand that it's hard to speculate on things when you've read them, so if you want to do some sort of fill-in fic that'd be great.

Optional details are OPTIONAL:

I listed my two major ships of this canon, but I would also be thrilled with genfic. While I would first want you to write the fic you want to write, if you need help with suggestions here are some prompts:

Blyss/Merret: Queer loves in my canon, please tell me more about them. Is the acceptance they get from Elspeth what they find everywhere? Did they have a struggle finding themselves or did it come easily? Is that one of the reasons they stay in the ruins?

Matthew/Dragon: I JUST WANT IT TO ALL BE OKAY, OKAY? But it might not be. And that's okay.

Individually:

Dragon: How did she survive in the ruins? What do her thoughts sound like? How did she discover her Visioning ability? Maybe life in the Red Queen's land? How much of the dream-vision do we think was borne from truth?

Matthew: Backstory? His time as a slave? His time at Obernewtyn before discovering other misfits? Or perhaps discovering Elspeth? Or if darkfic is more your style, we can go inside the Herder cloisters. Or perhaps we could go back to Elspeth's first year at Obernewtyn.

Blyss and Merret: Tell me more about her! I feel like we don't know anything about either of these women before they entered Elspeth's life, and there are gaping holes in the story about them. What is their daily life like, what brought them to Obernewtyn? How did they feel about going to the West Coast?

The key thing is that (and I am assuming you have finished the series) it be either canon compliant or clearly an AU. Clearly, either is fine, I'd just prefer it be marked! If you have it set after/during the Sending, please just mark it as that and you don't need to worry about canon/AU (especially if you're a writer who, like your reader, doesn't live in Australia!)

Thank you so much!
Alianne
