It's been a tiring couple of weeks. First the gym club started up again for the term - with classes currently running in 2 different venues and a new assistant for me who is actually making more work by finding things that need doing then telling me about them and chatting for hours... It's good to have help, but I'm going to have to start making appointments!
Then the bushfires...
I was already scheduled to be in the St John Ambulance Communications Centre on the Sunday anyway - I arrived to find chaos! Someone, in their wisdom, put the state control room in the comms room, so anyone and everyone was running back and forth...
I ended up in comms four days (20+ hours) last week, then again over the weekend and for another 4 days this week. It's calmed down a little now, but there's still a lot of stuff to do.
(We keep in contact with the first-aid crews in the field, who are there to look after the firefighters). Of course, that's all on top of trying to keep the gym running and other stuff (I was on a coaching course for 12 hours on Sunday!).
It's also been heartening to see how much support there is for the fire-affected areas and people. A telethon raised more than $20M (~8M GBP). All the coverage on the TV and radio is emotionally wearing though/ I've had a couple of episodes of bursting into tears over nothing, though that's getting better now.
So all in all, feeling very tired. For now the cooking and cleaning that my other half had discovered has disappeared again. Now I'm back he stays up for half the night watching TV and then is too tired to do anything when he gets home. I feel an explosion building. He's also been stuck with making sure our St John group's vehicles are ready to go out to the fire grounds - no easy task when someone else in the group just decided to empty them and send them off to other events without asking first!
Anyways, thanks to everyone who called Mum to check I was ok... :)
