Castiel was there by choice. When he looked back, he might wonder if it was the wisest choice -- but just then, he didn't really care. He'd needed a temporary escape. Live, Gabriel had told him. The only problem with his brother's advice? Cas didn't exactly know how to live, how to let go of what he was without completely losing himself like so many Fallen. Gabriel and Balthazar had found some sort of balance, but he had no intention of asking Gabriel for any secrets or tips, and of course Balthazar was no longer there (but in all honesty he wasn't sure he'd ask him either, even if he was).
So, he drank. He didn't intend to drink enough to become inebriated, mostly because he wasn't sure Greed's little establishment had enough alcohol in stock for that. He simply wanted to relax. (And yes, he had come to associate alcohol with relaxation. Taking cues from the Winchesters was probably not in his overall best interest.) When Greed started to ask questions, he debated not answering, but after a moment he decided to indulge the homunculus' curiosity. "Angels are soldiers, Gods' Hammers as it were. We were created to obey His word. We watch, and we fight."
Pulling the proffered glass closer to himself, he gazed down into the amber liquid; whiskey. There was a flicker of a frown. "It's a rather long story." He lifted the glass to his lips, took a drink, didn't even wince at the burn. "The condensed version is I was tasked with pulling a human's soul out of Hell and ensuring he did what he was supposed to." Which he didn't, because Dean Winchester never did anything he was supposed to. At least not without some kind of fight. "I rebelled for him when I discovered my siblings were killing each other, and had planned to have him killed as well." His fingers twitched against the glass. Castiel took a breath, gaze raising back to Greed's face. "My Father -- God -- went missing, so my siblings took it upon themselves to kick-start the Apocalypse."
