Time to cross the line

Jan 11, 2005 06:21

So it looks like I am getting sent to South Africa (Jo'burg) for a week for work.

I am looking forward to it, I loved SA the last time I was there and a week of warmth in the middle of a dreary winter would be nice.

However it makes me nervous, I will be doing a full customer install from top to bottom which I have not done before, I will be thousands of miles from anyone that could help and I will be working on equipment I am unfamiliar with.

But if all goes to plan then it will increase both my profile and confidence at work which are things I need this year if I am to change job.

In an ideal world the 12 servers, 2 firewalls and 2 switches should be built and configured in 3 or 4 days giving me 1 or 2 days to snooze by the pool or pick up some more African curios.

Wish me luck, also pray they fly me business class as it is at least a 12 hour flight and I could do with the extra comfort.

It is nearly 6 years since I have been in the Southern Hemisphere and I need to make damn sure I don't leave this long a gap again (crossing the line is sailor speak for crossing the equator)
