Tonight we watched the Paralympics.
There is nightly coverage here on mainstream TV, apparently there is no coverage in the US despite the fact they do very well in the medal table.
I think the paralympics are great, even more than the regular olympics they seem to exemplify the olympic dream, these are people who have been injured or have been born disabled and still they strive to be the best at what they do. Everyday they must face situations that make them feel they are somehow worse than others yet their confidence is still strong enough to rise above their lot in life and strive for success.
Tonight we saw a girl who can barely control her own body yet she controlled a horse sufficiently to win a bronze in dressage.
I was less impressed with wheelchair rugby it looked like a rough version of wheelchair basketball but the documentary about the team was really interesting.
The different classifications for the events are pretty confusing though.
