I LOVE Stephen Moffat. He's written by far some fo the best episodes of Doctor Who (I didn't watch any of series 3 because Martha Jones got on my nerves, but I watched 'Blink' yesterday and it was brilliant). I actually knew him from Coupling (one of the cleverest, most overlooked, sitcoms ever written) before Doctor Who. He's brilliant at writing episodes that explore relationships more than just special effects - his epidoes have some of the biggest character developments. He's just such a clever writer - I'm very glad that he's taken over.

Incidentally I watched the Doctor Who spoof he wrote for Comic relief years ago (with Rowan Atkinson among others) which was quite good (a bit childish, but they always are). He also wrote the Children in Need one that went between series 3 and the Christmas special which completely passed me by at the time. He's obviously been a long time fan, so you know he'll do his best not to ruin the show.

Funny that you haven't watched since S3 because I watched every single episode of S4. It had some very good ones. I think I'm one of the few people who really liked Catherine Tate...

Anyway, I like David Tennant, I like that he's made Doctor Who more popular and less of a geeky thing to like. I can see how he can annoy people, though. He speaks very fast a lot of the time, which must be difficult for non native english speakers, or even Americans and others not used to the accent, to pick up on. He's quite away-with-the-fairies a lot of the time. He tries to act young, despite the fact that his character is almost a millenium old. I did prefer Christopher Eccleston - he came across as wiser; someone you could trust with your life, but someone also sad, with the weight of the world on his shoulders. He still cracked jokes, but not when he was in mortal danger. I feel sad that he was only there for one season and that many people have forgotten about him because David Tennant's been around for so long.

You're kind of right about the Ralph Feinnes thing! I'm okay with the casting. Like you, I trust Moffat. But I have a thing for older men and a guy 5 or so years older than me is not old enough! But maybe I'll change my mind. I actually can't wait to see a fresh take on the character.

It's weird because I thought I would hate Tennant at first, nobody could replace my lovely Ecclestion, but then I grew fond of him. I can't decide now, I love them both...and it's the same with Rose, Martha and Donna. I liked Rose from the start and then though I would hate Martha but grew to love her too and the same with Donna. *lol*

I don't know, I guess I love the show too much to have any criticism left. :D

I didn't know Moffat had written Coupling, now I have to check that out too.

You know, I used to laugh at Doctor Who, until I actually sat down to watch an episode (I'd occasionally flick on, but it was always at the stupid SFX bits so i'd just laugh!). Ironically, the first episode I ever sat down to watch in its entirety was "Love and Monsters" which has hardly of The Doctor in it. Now I really love the show and am cross at myself for not noticing it earlier.

I'd definitely recommend Coupling. It's not for everyone. I guess people have compared it to Friends, being that there's six of them, but it's much more 15s and sexed up and far less pg13 (and American). But in a good way. It's terribly witty (sometimes too witty - you can find yourself missing things the first time round) and has some truly hilarious moments.
