More Firsts

Today's first was not so exciting...my first-ever case of poison ivy!  I got it walking to an archaeological dig site of slave quarters on a 1710s plantation in St. Leonard's, Maryland.  The site was amazing.  We got to see a few features, like post-holes and garbage pits.  And speaking of archaeology, Saturday is London Town's public Dig Day, in which I will be participating, so I'm very excited about that.

I was in St. Leonard's because a group of us (mostly archaeology interns, but HTLG's education director and I tagged along) went to tour the Maryland Archaeology and Conservation Lab down there.  When it was built in 1998, it was the most state-of-the-art lab in the country, but of course now, with changing technology, it has been surpassed.  But it was neat to see all of these things that I've learned about in class actually in a lab setting.  Especially the huge freeze-dryer!

My family is starting to trickle into Maryland for the next week or so.  Today my grandma from Michigan arrived, followed by California cousins tomorrow and my immediate family next Thursday.  I'm very excited to give everyone tours of London Town!
