Amaterasu had come here out of curiosity, for the most part, but as soon as she had entered a sense of heavy discomfort settled itself upon her. It felt familiar in a sense that it was different from what she would have defaulted her thoughts of it being. She would not look into the darkness for fear of seeing things that would only come back to haunt her. She had already gazed into it enough upon arrival and did not like what she saw.
There was no way that Yami could have survived their fight - no way that it could have come to this world without her knowing.
Amaterasu did not like this.
She did not like this at all, the wolf turned human decides as she wraps her arms about herself in an almost protective manner.
But when had she been one to run away? It was rare and, despite the oppressive nature of the area, she would not allow it to beat her. Instead she steps towards the stairs and begins venturing down them, towards the platforms and the boxes occupying them. The entire time she moves, hearing nothing but silence (no footsteps, no sound of crumbling brick or debris being accidentally kicked), Amaterasu has her ears folded against the back of her head and her expression near unreadable.
Standing on the edge of the left platform, near the closed kiosk, is someone who would have probably disappeared into the background had his outfit not contained the red and white highlights that it did. Shadow had caught a glimpse of something in the distance, and despite this place reminding him of some messed up version of either Flame Core or the Black Comet, he couldn't help but stare out past the remnants of a pillar. Perhaps it would appear again...
Unlike either of those places though, where danger was everywhere, the sheer lack of anything to do was driving Shadow up the wall. That, and the knowledge that there was something over there. Mephiles couldn't possibly have come here. He had struck down the demonic shade and his so-called 'Father' both. But... He knew not if Mephiles had been killed in that last attack. If that monster was here-
"...?"
The sound of another person's footsteps (muted, like he was listening to it under water) caught the Ultimate Lifeform's attention. As he turned around, he's met with the sight of a familiar stray.
"Was wondering if anyone else would show up," and he frowned at the sound of his own voice. Still muted... Whatever this place was, it might be a good idea to exit it soon.
Amaterasu stops short of the last step, foot hovering inches above it before she draws it back. This was definitely a surprise, the feeling feeling and it reflects in her eyes as she sets her gaze onto Shadow's form. She had not been expecting to find anyone else here.
But with the way his voice sounded here, it was almost hard to make out exactly what he was saying; the surprise from a moment ago fades, replaced by ever growing discomfort.
The darkness was almost too suffocating - nearly worse than any cursed zone - as she took the final step onto the platform. The most Amaterasu finds herself able to do is make a small sound of acknowledgment and a nod of her head in his direction in silent greeting.
He caught the greeting; despite the darkness being thick and heavy, he had been through something like this already. No, that wasn't right... Black Doom and Mephiles' influence had never been absolute. This felt more akin to the vacuum of space.
"Curious about this place as well?" he said slowly, making sure to keep his voice level and clear. Anything to offer some sort of distraction. If Amaterasu looks carefully, she'll notice that Shadow is holding a bottle of juice in his hand. Something he had picked up from one of the boxes.
She takes a few steps closer, careful in the way she - slow, watchful, one foot in front of the other; different the usual, uncaring gate she tends to have - walks until she stood just a foot or two shy from Shadow's side.
Curious?
Her eyes wander from the ever looming darkness to Shadow again, the question having done well enough to bring about some sort of mild distraction. A soft 'Mmm' comes from her in response - It was definitely something like that, - as her eyes stray, staring at the bottle before letting her gaze wander towards the boxes that lay strewn about.
So they were actually not just for show and had contents within them...
He doesn't say anything else for a while afterwards. With the heavy silence, Shadow had only barely caught Amaterasu's reply. Keyword; barely. Times like these, he was grateful that his abilities, skills and general powers were carried over from his Hedgehog self.
Now if only this place would have let him keep his Chaos Control.
Shadow idly tossed the bottle up and down a few times, still staring out into the darkness. The silence continued for a while before he tensed abruptly.
"Off in the distance," Shadow started, ears pointed forward, "do you see anything strange?"
The questions draws her away from the boxes and contents within them. She had taken to walking from his side during the silence that had come over the two of them and had taken to checking out the contents of the boxes. They were filled with bottles and event though they all looked the same, the names on the boxes were a sure fire sign that all of them were different.
It was a bit odd that these things would be in a place like this. It was not a field and they were not hidden away in chests or other easily breakable object. No, they were out in the open for all to see and grab and take for themselves.
When the silence is broken Amaterasu glances up to Shadow, fingers resting carefully on the bottle that resides on her lap. The question causes a small sound of discomfort to rise from the back of her throat, something of a growl mixed in with a whine. So he had seen something as well, then? It makes her wonder if it had been the same as she - odd shapes and movements of familiarity.
It takes a moment as she carefully tucks the bottle against her body as she stands, once against returning to Shadows side and, with her free hand, reaches up and presses it against his arm. The movement is subtle but is answer enough in the slight tremble of fingers. Yes, she had seen strange things in the distance the more she took to staring off into the darkness of this place.
It was a testament to how much Shadow had changed since the ARK incident that he didn't immediately pull away from Amaterasu's touch. Instead, he stayed still a moment longer before shaking his head, ears pulled back and looking... The same as he usually does. Which meant a scowl though this one had a pretty good reason behind it this time. Well, as good a reason as willingly coming to a place like this is, at least.
"Perhaps it's a sign we're overstaying our welcome," he suggested.
There was little to no chance of this being Mephiles, despite the atmosphere fitting that shady guy perfectly. Besides, if it was Mephiles, Shadow didn't doubt for a second that the other would have taken this time to antagonize him to no end.
This place was more than unwelcoming in feeling, almost suffocating in a sense that it caused another wave of discomfort and worry to rush through her body. Eyes narrow slightly as she forces herself to look away from the inky, black abyss before them and look to Shadow instead. It takes another moment before she draws her hand away from his arm and nods to his words.
"Mm..." Yes. It would seem as such.
And if that was the case then it would be best for them to leave before anything was to happen to prove the suggestion right.
