Revya still felt uncomfortable without her Onyx Blade, but she'd become more familiar with the sword she'd been provided, and as such, her confidence had gone up as well. After running into Gig, she knew she couldn't let him get ahead of her, so after many a relentless grinding session, she'd managed to... level up, or whatever it was called here. The screen that kept track of her information showed that her level had gone up to 5 at last check. Whether that was good or bad, she didn't know, but as she walked through the rain, sword slung over her shoulder, it didn't particularly matter.
She'd taken out assholes like this a million times in the past, hadn't she? One more was no big deal. Just another number for the body count. ...Not that she planned on killing him or anything. He was a jerk, but that wasn't a crime. She would just give him a sound beating, and then let him go. Maybe all he needed was a boot to the head.
Dripping wet and more than a little cold in the Edge Punisher outfit, she trudged her way towards the temple, her free hand pushing clumps of rain-matted red hair out of her face. Can't win a fight you can't see, after all.
He didn't have to wait long. It was hard to see through the heavy rainfall, but he could spot a figure not too far from where he was. When she called out, that was good enough for him. Didn't matter if it was the wrong person, this was a pretty low-level field so at worst he'd be attacking some unsuspecting newbie.
To hell with fair fights! He brought up his gun and let loose a Thorn Shot at her, moving just close enough to shoot and initiate the battle. Cocky (and slightly underlevelled) or not, Walnut knew how to handle himself in a fight, for all his talk.
"You better make this worth my time, kid!" He sneered, readying his bayonet for the impending counterattack.
I'm seriously so sorry this took so long. ;A; Life killed me.embracing_onyxApril 25 2010, 19:13:39 UTC
Not expecting her opponent to fight dirty, the shot caught her unaware, biting into the flesh of her upper left arm as she tried a last-second attempt at dodging. She should have known better; should have expected a cheap shot. There was no time to berate herself for it now, though. What mattered most was putting this rogue in his place.
Revya rolled her shoulders, ignoring the hot burst of pain the motion caused, gripping her broadsword tighter. She knew she was already at a disadvantage against his long range, and the damn rain in her eyes wasn't helping matters, either. Still, she could see well enough to make out his figure in the storm. She charged him, sword at the ready with a Tiger Blitz.
it's fine .D.brevealmyheartApril 25 2010, 22:37:49 UTC
He was backing up as he aimed another shot, and the rain really wasn't helping either of them--but through the haze he could see that ridiculously huge sword coming up at him. How could this girl even life that thing?! Damnit, a hit from a weapon like that could probably take him out.
Walnut fired off one more shot, hoping it would at least do some damage while he got the hell out of her way. The massive blade clipped his side, but he managed to dodge the brunt of he attack. It definitely left a mark, but he wasn't going to let that slow him down.
Putting his bayonet to good use, the Gunner slashed at the girl a few times before making another hasty retreat. Melee combat was a pretty bad idea, considering that huge goddamn sword. If he could keep out of her range, he might just be able to win this.
;A; I am seriously so sorry. I wouldn't have threaded if I knew I'd be so patchy around here.embracing_onyxMay 4 2010, 23:26:56 UTC
The second shot, mercifully, missed. Any more damage to her arms would make swinging that huge sword she'd been given a serious pain in her ass. The fact that it already wasn't unbearable had been surprising at first, but with all the weird shit she'd already been through, Revya was willing to write it off as unimportant.
As he slashed, Revya got a decent enough look at his face through the rain pelting them, eyes widening and mind distracted enough to allow several of Walnut's slashes to tear at the side presented to him.
"Holy hell," she gasped, half from pain and half from surprise. She knew that blonde hair, the long coat. He was different from her last memory, but the similarities were too much to keep her from shouting out, "Endorph!"
Revya cantered back, lowering her sword and staring bewildered at her opponent. He... he was dead, wasn't he? She'd seen him die taking out the third World Eater. What was he doing here, and why was he fighting her? Didn't he recognize her? They'd been friends! She wasn't going to fight a friend.
"Damnit, you could have killed me. If this is your way of telling me I'm going soft, you coulda just said something instead."
nooooooooo ilthis thread :crevealmyheartMay 4 2010, 23:46:31 UTC
The girl's strange reaction at least got him to stop shooting, even if it was only temporary. Endorph? Walnut stopped a good distance away, watching her silhouette through the pouring rain. Her weapon was down. He could use this opportunity to take another cheap shot at her, but...
"What the hell are you talking about?" he shouted. He kept his weapon raised, ready to fire in case this turned out to be some weird mind-game thing. He'd never seen this girl before in his life. Why was she acting like she knew him?
"I don't know what you're playing at, kid, but if you want to give up you better do it now."
But I am being inconvenient. 8Uembracing_onyxMay 4 2010, 23:58:11 UTC
She rolled her eyes, leaning her sword into the rain-swollen dirt and resting against it.
"Alright, I get the picture. No more slacking off or hiding from Danette to avoid training with her. You don't have to play the 'I don't know you' card." Whether he could see it or not, she frowned, one hand pushing away more of her soaked hair from her face. This whole storm thing was starting to piss her off. "Either I've been getting worse, or you're getting better, Endorph. The way you're going, you probably would have set me on fire or something if it weren't wet as hell out here."
Revya managed a laugh, pulling her sword back up and holstering it on her back. "I'm seriously ready to get out of this rain, how about you?"
well not right now :VrevealmyheartMay 5 2010, 00:46:30 UTC
It was almost funny, up until the part about setting her on fire. He was positive he'd never met this girl before. How could she know about his Chroma ability? He gripped his gun tightly. She couldn't know something like that, she couldn't even get his name right.
"Who the hell are you?!" Her weapon was down. Why was she letting her guard down? He was trying to kill her just a minute ago! Her sudden trust only pissed the Oxide off even more. He could take her out right now if he wanted to. "I don't know who Endorph is, but you've got the wrong guy!"
He wasn't budging. Rain be damned, he wasn't going anywhere until he knew what the hell was going on.
She paused, surprised and skeptical. This wasn't normal, even if Endorph had never exactly been a normal guy.
"What do you mean, 'Who am I'? It's me, Revya. Don't you remember?" Her expression softened, sword still put away and the urge to fight gone. "You saved my ass once or twice. Hell, you took out a World Eater all by yourself. We were friends." Or, she liked to think they were. Revya certainly had nothing against the strange man, and it seemed as though they had at least been close allies, if not friends. The fact that the man before her obviously had no idea who she was stung a bit.
"If you're not Endorph, then who are you? You look just like him. Your hair, your face, even your voice. You both use guns. Can you do that... fire thing he does, too?" She struggled for a moment, trying to remember the name. She'd only heard him say it once or twice before, and that was over a year ago. Cue mental strain. "Psy... Psycho Burgundy?"
He continued to scowl at her from afar for awhile, but... damnit, this was just too weird. He finally lowered his gun and quickly crossed the distance between them. He had to be sure he didn't know this girl. The Chroma stopped a few feet away from her. His weapon hung loosely at his side now, though he wasn't about to put it away just yet. He looked the strange girl over, now that he could see her better.
"...I don't know anyone named Revya, and I don't have friends," he scoffed, jamming his free hand in his pocket. "And my name's not Endorph, it's Walnut. But why would there be some guy running around who looks just like me and has my Chroma power? That's not possible."
Only a blood relative could possibly have the power of Burgundy, and as far as he knew his only sibling was Castile. An identical twin brother seemed like a bit too much of a stretch, especially since he wasn't even in Ivoire anymore. Maybe she was from some sort of weird alternate reality...
She blinked innocently up at the Gunner as he inspected her. No tricks here, mister. Revya's the good one.
"Walnut...," she echoed, letting the name settle on her tongue. It was sort of familiar. She'd heard that name somewhere before, but where? The thought refused to click, and she let it go. It would come to her sooner or later, and it's not as if either of them were going anywhere anytime soon. "I know I know you. You're just too much like him."
Revya shook her head, careful not to fling water on Walnut, even though it wouldn't matter much in this downpour. "You might not have friends, but I do. And I don't fight them, even if they have changed." Well, with one exception, but that fight hardly counted. It didn't matter anymore, anyway. All of that was long in the past.
She turned around, heading back in the direction she had originally arrived from. "I'm going home."
"Tch. I'm telling you, I've seen you before in my life, kid. You're thinking of someone else." He was just going to go with the crazy alternate reality explanation. Hell if he knew what other worlds were like, maybe they all just had the same people living different lives or something... and he wasn't this Endorph, even if they were the same.
He watched as she walked away, slowly shrinking into the distance... Then he brought up his bayonet and aimed right at her back before firing off one last Thorn Shot.
"That's for showing me your backside!"
And this is why you should never trust Walnut ever. After that, he hurried off to the temple's warp point, because he wasn't actually in the mood for a lecture or getting beaten up by a girl. There's nothing wrong with taking cheap-shots and running if it was to prove a point!
She can't help but want to believe in people; that's just Revya's nature. She should really know better by now, though. If Gig chewing her out constantly for being too trusting hadn't gotten the message in, that shot to the back sure as hell did.
It connected, hitting her square in the back and knocking the redhead off her feet. She still hadn't been expecting a cheap shot from Walnut, despite the one he'd used to start the fight earlier. It took her a second to recollect herself and get back on her feet, but by the time she managed it, the Gunner was out of her sight. The shot stung, though whether it was just the pain of battle or the pain of being turned on by someone so familiar, she didn't know.
All she cared about now was getting to the warp point and getting out of the rain. She could find Walnut again on a better day and give him the ass-kicking he was asking for. He couldn't run forever.
