Vague ramblings

Kindof sums up this morning really, as well as this post.
Meandered to pre-school, got there half an hour late. Better than yesterday when we were an hour late. Orlaith's been very tired in the morning, waking up late, not wanting to get up and go, not wanting to get dressed and really dragging her feet. I think it's the aftermath of  the cold that would not die.
Esme and I went to playgroup. She was a bit overwhelmed by the number of other kids there, wandered about a bit, not really sure what to do with herself. Warmed up by the end, of it, so we'll try and go again on Thursday when there's less kids about. I really need to find a few other bits and pieces to do with her.

Wandered back to down to pick Orlaith up and dawdled our way home through the park. All set for a nice quiet afternoon, really. Except I am supposed to be taking them out again to go get their piggy flu vaccinations. Before anyone makes a comment about immunisation and its dangers, I have to state I am staunchly pro-immunisation. People are entitled to their views, but in my opinion, not getting your kids vaccinated is selfish and stupid, particularly when it comes to highly contagious and potentially lethal diseases such as measles. They had a large outbreak of measles in our area last year and they had quite a number of children die or end up on life support machines in hospital.
I'm not saying that immunisation is risk-free. Some kids do have a terrible response and , yes, there have been kids who end up becoming severely disabled (not sure of a better way to put that) as a result of being vaccinated and it would be devestating if it happend.. But the percentages, in my opinion, run in favour of vaccination being safe. I would rather take the very slight risk of complications rather than the massive risk of my kids ending up with a really nasty disease.

Relying on 'herd immunity' rather than getting your kids vaccinated properly is really not on. It basically relies on other parents to do the vaccination thing so you don't have to. And it's really not fair on your kids or other peoples'.

Um. That turned into slightly more of a rant than I intended it to be. But the anti-vaccination movement really angers me, because diseases like measles, mumps and rubella, they should be like small pox, a thing of the past. And they would be if people just got their kids vaccinated.

But of course, people are entitled to their own viewpoints.

I think I need to go have a  Time Out and stop shouting at the internets...
