A thought:
Fanartists offer commissions all the time. Pay them so much to have them draw whoever you wish. This is awesome.
Why don't fic writers do the same? Offer to write about someone's characters in exchange for moolah.
Mind you, I have no interest in actually charging people to write about their characters. (My writing isn't the best and I have this awful habit on taking FOREVER to write stuff that I do finish, and never getting around to finishing the rest.) It just occured to me, while browsing DeviantArt, that I don't think I've ever seen it yet in fandom.
Perhaps I'm just not looking in the right places...
