Screw Autumn, Winter Is Here!

Dear God/Mother Nature/Whatever,

This month is September, otherwise known as the tail-end of summer. In the calendar, autumn doesn't "officially" begin until the 23rd. I noticed that a lot of the trees were yellowing and losing their leaves over the past few weeks, but considering where I live (the Frozen North, ha-ha), this is not surprising. After all, it's getting somewhat chilly at night lately. At least day temperatures last week were still in the beautiful high 20s celcius (around 80 or so Fahrenheit(sp)).

So tell me, why am I looking out of the window right now and SEEING SNOW FALL?! Why did you force me to come into work today with not just a sweater (a pretty nifty, trendy one too) but a coat as well when only yesterday I wore a t-shirt? Why must I drive the Smart Car (a very anti-winter vehicle) through your chilling wrath?

I am a desert gal. I'm used to, and actually thrive in, blistering heat. However, this being my fourth autumn winter in central Alberta Canada, I have some idea of how weather patterns here work. And I must tell you that I wasn't expecting snow for another month. So why all this? At least this snow is melting as soon as it touches the ground, but still. I hope not to wake up to snow tomorrow morning. Give me a chance to see grass, dirt, and pavement for a little while longer before I don't see it again (due to ever-persistent snow) for another 7 months.

Disgruntled,
Alfbie
