There are those on my f-list who strive to reach comments in the hundreds, some in the thousands. Me, I am ecstatic to receive almost 50 comments! Being the first time this has happened to me EVAH! since opening this LJ account in March of 2004, I am quite happy! People...people actually had discussions, lively, thoughtful discussions on my LJ! I tried to follow along and add my pitiful two cents the best I could, but meh. What was the attraction? Was it the text of the LJ-cut link? Were the forums not cutting it? Did I actually say something that made people go, "Dude, let's discuss this!" Whatever the reason, 'tis awesome :)
I am so lame. It's sad, ne? So on to other matters...
It's that time of the month again! Flashfic time!! This month I somewhat challenged myself. I wrote for tragicamente, who requested such pairings as Sess/Kagura, Kikyou/Naraku, and Kouga/Kagome. None of those were doing anything for me. So I decided to write for the crack pairing that is so wrong in so many ways, Kagome/Inupapa! I don't really care much for this pairing, but I figured, "what the hell, I'm gonna do it anyway". I didn't quite pull it off...
Tragicamente specifically wanted romance. OK. She also made a snarky comment about wanting a happy ending to said romance fic, that she realizes that this may be too difficult for people to achieve. I was a bit miffed by that comment (response in a similar fashion on the author's note of the flashfic post), but meh, whatever. So, brainstorming time!! All my thoughts were completely unoriginal. They all revolved around the same 'ol that usually happens to this joke of a pairing--Kagome gets mad a Inuyasha and somehow travels back in time to meet his dear ol dad, or Inupapa comes back from the dead to romance his son's girlfriend. Yeah. So I figured, "Why not have her meet him before she ever met anyone else?" At first I dabbled into reincarnation fic, of Kagome meeting a reincarnated Inupapa in her time, or the Inupapa-never-actually-died-and-has-survived-to-Kagome's-time thing. None of those were doing anything for me. So, back to the travel-back-to-Inupapa's-time thing. But then I thought, "she would have remembered this incident, which would interfere with canon events." So I made her into a little girl, to make it more plausible for her to forget the brief "visit"/think it was a dream/manipulated by someone else in thinking it never happened. Yeah. But wait, wouldn't making Kagome a little girl throw the whole romance thing out the window? Why, yes it would! Unless, of course, I was into the pedophile-bishie thing, which I'm not. So, bye-bye romance! Kagome/Inupapa became Kagome + Inupapa.
Now, the pairing we are talking about here is Kagome/Inupapa. The word "inupapa" on its own automatically spells tragedy. Combine that with his hanyou son's love interest, and you have disaster! I forsee no happy endings happening here. I suppose one could be thought up, but I had too much going on in RL to put that much thought into it :P So, this was the result. The fic is dorkily called "Well of Hope". Commentors thus far have labeled it "cute", which is really cool :) I like it. It may actually make an appearance on FF.net.
