Ahh, last day of work today!
December has been exhausting. Having a weekend at the end of NaNoWriMo is good from the point of view of reaching 50000 words, but rather less good from the point of view of recovering afterwards. Combine the post-NaNo exhaustion with a terrifyingly busy first couple of weeks of December, partly with catching up on all the social engagements that got deferred from November, to result with Rachael and me being very very tired for the first half of the month.
I've completely failed to get any more writing of my novel done so far (well, 200 words in 19 days). I think perhaps, like with Horizons in 2005, I just needed a bit of a break from the story. I'm definitely going to finish it sometime, though.
Instead, I've been working on
Foundation of a Nation, my building game, now with extra theme. Some of the details of the theme are, shall we say, still being worked out - for instance,
ilanin pointed out that if the nation hasn't yet got a king, it's unclear quite how the Nobles got enNobled. Suggestions for alternate interpretations are welcomed. Some of the rules are continually being tweaked, as well, in an effort to find the combination between keeping game balance, letting each play be different, and allowing strategy.
This Sunday is the
Carol Service at City Church Cambridge, and Rachael and I are singing in the choir :) 7pm-8pm, all welcome, and there's free mince pies and mulled wine.
Then shortly after that, we're off to see family for Christmas, which will be lots of fun. I'm looking forward to it, as I haven't seen them for ages. It's a little sad to be leaving
Pepsi and Tango behind, so we'll be hurrying back to Cambridge for New Year's Eve.
