Mom's Smith and Wesson: A 9mm Story

Christmas was, and still is, great. I got a Nintendo Wii, a Nintendo DS Lite, and a 17" flat panel LCD monitor for my computer. At first, the 17" flat panel wasn't working right. It started turning pink and the power adapter was loose, causing the monitor to shut off randomly. I managed to fix the power adapter by screwing it tighter and then the monitor just needed a new VGA cable. So now it's all fixed!

A bunch of friends of mine in are in town again because of the holidays. This year, we held the South Penn Bowl a little later than usual, but it still happened. So this past Tuesday evening, the 26th, we went to Chad's house. His mom made the usual for us: mozarella sticks, shrimp, pizza bites, and jalapeno poppers. Then we played the traditional game of RISK! This year I actually managed to come out victorious. Usually, I'm out within the first twenty minutes of the game. Lonnie and I kind of shared the victory though because it ended up just being me and him on the board. At that point, it could have taken forever to finish since both of us had a lot of armies left.

The South Penn Bowl game was... interesting to say the least. I was on a team with Lonnie, Andy, and Pat. The other team had B, Ryan, Carter, Chad, and Ryan; they would have one on the side lines at all times. Funny this is that I have never been on Andy's team before. Interestingly, I've never won a South Penn Bowl either, while Andy has never lost a South Penn Bowl. Since trends apparently mean something, we managed to win and Andy got another win.

What is hilarious though is how pathetic we've gotten. We usually play to twenty touchdowns. First team to get ten touchdowns means half-time. This year we decided at half-time that we were only good for about eighteen touchdowns. Then, after B got stiff-armed by Lonnie and started bleeding everywhere, and after Chad got elbowed in the face and had to sit out because his eye swelled up so quickly he couldn't see, they decided that we only needed seventeen touchdowns to win. Final score was 17-16 I think.

Since it was also a Wednesday, we all went to wing night at a bar downtown. Andy didn't go because he doesn't like wings and B didn't show because he was eating with his parents. It was a lot of fun seeing everyone again. Andy seems to think that this was the last year of the South Penn Bowl. I guess we will just have to retire to playing RISK since tackle football might be a bit too rigorous for some.

So after the South Penn Bowl I came home and was taking all my muddy clothes out of my trunk when I saw Mom, Josh, Dylan, and one of Josh's friends from work, outside in the yard shooting her Smith and Wesson 9mm at targets. So, of course, Mom asks if I want to shoot and this time I decided I would. Why not, right? My bruised body made it over there and Josh put a new target up for me. He gave me the basics on loading and firing before handing me the gun. I took it, slapped a clip of 16 rounds into it, pulled back the top to put the first round in the chamber, and then took aim. After I squeezed the trigger sixteen times I looked up at the target. Josh and Mom thought it was amazing that I went 15/16 my first time handling and shooting a gun. They thought it was so good that they took the target down and gave it to me to keep. I guess all these years of playing first-person shooters has made me a decent shot without even knowing it? I can't wait to shoot it again sometime.

I woke up this morning and am feeling very sore. My body aches all over, which isn't good since Megan wants to take me on in DDR later.
