fic: United We Stand, Divided We Fall (SNSD, TaengSic, 6/?)

Title: United We Stand, Divided We Fall (tentative title)
Pairing: Taeyeon/Jessica, possibly more in the future.
Rating: T for Teen
Disclaimer: All mentioned plots and characters are not my own, but the general idea and writing is mine. Why do I say that the plots and characters are not mine? I will discuss in the Notes. However, I own one character who will show up later. Also, no harm is being done, this is simply done out of pure entertainment.
Notes: I had a bit of an inspiration hit after watching the Dungeon Fighter Online Commercial Film by SNSD. I decided to write a fanfic about it, but when I furthered my plot I realized that I ended up borrowing a few storylines, concepts and ideas from other things other than Dungeon Fighter Online. Rather than implying the ideas are mine, I would rather give credit to these shows: Sailor Moon, InuYasha, Naruto, Kannazuki no Miko and possibly Yu-Gi-Oh!. Yes, you read right this is a Girls’ Generation meets Dungeon Fighter Online meets Sailor Moon meets InuYasha meets Naruto meets Kannazuki no Miko meets Yu-Gi-Oh! story, which undoubtedly makes this a fantasy story. As for the characters, I own no one unless stated per chapter. Oh yeah, this is my first SNSD fanfic. Yes, now for the Summary.
Summary: We all think that it was a game or just a fantasy, but this is their world where Taeyeon was chosen as a leader for a reason and why Jessica is always tired.

Prologue - The Prophecy
Chapter 1 - Do You Promise to... Protect Her?
Chapter 2 - You Have Every Choice in the World!
Chapter 3 - Our Lives Were Complicated the Moment We Were Born.
Chapter 4 - As long as she continues to live, then I would die as many lives as I have to just for her.
Chapter 5 - She Will See Me Soon Enough

People often ask me when I will take my rest. I understand why they would ask because I work far too much, but I am obligated to do this. Working non-stop is not ideal, but finding the time to rest is nearly impossible with all that is going on. I must live according to everyone’s rules, work according to those rules, contain the entity that threatens to annihilate not only myself, but everyone else in this world, and still be able to protect you. I see my life as something superfluous since everything has already been predetermined long before our birth. My life is of no use to me, only for others. I may never experience rest, but I hope you do.

“You need to rest or you’ll hurt yourself.”

“There is no point; I will die in the end.”

“Unnie, don’t say that!”

“That is the reality for everyone and everything is it not? We will all die at some point.”

“You make it sound as if your life isn’t worth living.”

“If you were in my situation, would you think that my life is worth living?”

“You, unnie, are worth it in the end!”

Listening to her cry was the last thing she wanted to do. Throughout the entire night, all she heard outside of her room was the sound of quiet sobbing from the nearest bathroom. The pain she felt for every breath and gasp she heard broke her heart. She wanted to take away the pain that Jessica felt, but something inside of her told her that it was a bad idea. Instead, she rolled over on her bed and tried to ignore the sounds.

Except, something started to tug at her heart. It was no longer the pain she felt hearing Jessica cry, but something else. That pain kept her awake and kept her mind focused on the sounds from the bathroom; she knew sleep was going to be far from her grasp. She had no idea if what she felt was guilt or another negative emotion, but it definitely bothered her. Something started to overwhelm her and she needed to leave the dorm before she did something irrational.

So she did.

Jessica took a deep breath as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. All she saw was her that her eyes were red-rimmed, but far less bloodshot and puffy than she thought they would be.

/ flashback /

The silence seemed inevitable as all the girls stepped into the dorm.

They all arrived home in silence. Yoona and Seohyun immediately went to bed while Sunny, Hyoyeon and Sooyoung made their way to the living room to unwind before they went to sleep. Taeyeon, Yuri, Jessica and Tiffany had all gone straight to the kitchen without any words or glances shared between each other. They all stood around the kitchen peninsula with Taeyeon and Jessica on one side while Yuri and Tiffany stood across from them.

Yuri kept her eyes glued to the counter with her hands gripping the edge tightly so much so that she knew her knuckles turned white. She was full of anxiety because she knew that the auburn haired girl had her gazed locked on her. She knew Jessica was angry or irritated with her from the way it felt as if her gaze bored holes through her. Her eyes immediately darted to the girls around her and she saw the cold hard expression on Jessica’s face, that she expected, directed not only to her, but especially to Tiffany.

“What were you two doing in the washroom, in the same stall?” Jessica bluntly asked, emphasizing the latter half of the question. She stared hard at the two in front of her, but her eyes were focused on Tiffany. Her blood seethed through her because of Yuri, but somehow it became worse when she saw Tiffany with Yuri.

“Yuri was feeling sick and she was about to throw up, I was only holding back her hair,” Tiffany simply answered back as she eyed the other girl.

“And you expect me to believe that?” Jessica questioned back and her voice grew louder.

“It’s not like we were doing anything bad, Jessica!  What about you and Taeyeon? What were you two doing in the washroom? Why the heck would you even lock the door?” Tiffany retorted back with a fire in her voice.

“This isn’t about me and Taeyeon-“

“Then what is it about? Is this about you and Yuri? Are you still angry at the fact that Yuri picked me and not you?”

“Fany-ah, that’s enough,” Yuri turned her head to the girl beside her, but her plea did nothing.

“Yuri has nothing to do with this!” Jessica yelled back.

“Really, then why are you here interrogating us both? If Yuri really has nothing to do with this then why is she still here? What about Taeyeon? Why is she here? What’s the real problem, Jessica? Are you angry at Yuri or me?”

Jessica clenched her hands into fists onto the counter and leaned forward mere inches away from Tiffany, “I’m angry at the fact that Yuri picked you out of all people to be with. Maybe I wasn’t good enough for her, but I wouldn’t ever understand why you two work.”

Tiffany smirked and leaned in feeling Jessica’s breath against her skin, “Maybe, just maybe, I have something that you didn’t. Maybe I gave her something that she needed. Maybe I gave her the love that she deserved.”

“Yuri,” Jessica moved back and turned to the other girl, “Did you even mean the promise you made to me?”

Yuri lifted her head and looked Jessica straight in the eye, but she nearly faltered at the intensity of Jessica’s gaze. “I meant it, Sooyeon-ah, and I will always mean it.”

Jessica had her own smirk on her face, “Then, you wouldn’t have left in the first place.”

“You left her the moment-“ A loud crack filled the air and everyone fell silent soon after. Taeyeon and Yuri stared in disbelief as Jessica slapped Tiffany across the face to keep her from speaking.

“I never left her and you have no idea about what you’re talking about,” Jessica strongly stated through her teeth as tears started to fall down her cheeks. “Don’t even step into something you think you know.”

“Is that a threat?” Tiffany gritted through her own teeth as she held her burning face.

“No, Miyoung, it isn’t, I’m just telling you to mind your own business.”

“Yuri’s problems are also my problems-“

“This was before you two got together so it didn’t nor will it ever concern you, so for the sake of us all, stay out of it.”

“Or what?”

Jessica shook her head, “You don’t even want to go there.” She took a step back and walked away.

/ end flashback /

I loved you, Kwon Yuri, but I guess you didn’t. Jessica took a deep breath and quietly stepped out of the bathroom. When she was about to turn off the light, she nearly shrieked when she saw someone waiting in the hallway. One hand flew to her chest while the other covered her mouth to muffle whatever sound that managed to escape.

“Sunny-ah?” Jessica breathed as she dropped her hand from her mouth.

“Taeyeon has been gone for over an hour and she hasn’t come back.”

“W-What, did you try calling her?”

“She just ran out and left her cellphone here, so come on, let’s go find her. She might need us.”

Taeyeon collapsed against the railing of the bridge from unexplainable exhaustion. Thought were running through her mind about almost anything and everything. Beads of sweat formed across her forehead as she tried to calm her racing mind. She shut her eyes and covered her ears with her hands with hopes that her mind would focus, but everything seemed to be against her favour as the thoughts continued to run through her head. She slid to the ground, huddled against the railing with tears in her eyes, feeling as if she was about to lose her mind.

“What’s wrong with me?” she muttered to herself as several emotions ran through her entire body. All she could feel was anger, sadness, regret, happiness, joy, loneliness, indifference, confusion-- she had no idea how to control it. Flashes of Jessica’s smiling face entered her mind and anxiety suddenly filled her. She felt her tears run down her face at the constant change of emotions.

The flashes of Jessica’s happy face continued to fill her mind, but they started to change to faces of concern. Her heart started to ache at the sight and she wished that it would stop, but somehow it kept going. She clenched her fists against her chest and tried to will away the growing pain inside of her.

“S-Sooyeon,” the name barely left her lips as her mind continued to run. She pressed her forehead against the metal rails and started to feel a slight calm take over her body, but it only lasted for a few seconds when suddenly she sensed something headed in her direction.

“Hngh!” Taeyeon turned around and jumped away fast enough to avoid the huge rock thrown her way. She rolled onto her feet and saw a huge group of men running towards her. All of them seemed to be armed with a potentially deadly weapon and all of them looked far from their right minds by the way their eyes gleamed a dark blue.

“Get her!” one of the men cried out.

“A break… I just want a break!” Taeyeon cried out as she ran down the sidewalk of the bridge in order to distance herself from the horde of people. The last thing she wanted was to fight; her mind was far from focused. She dodged the stones and sticks throw at her, but she narrowly escaped the knife headed her way. She looked over her shoulder and realized that the group was gaining ground on her. Out of desperation, she jumped over the guard rail and ran across the road to the other side of the bridge. Car tires squealed as each car tried to avoid hitting her or the crowd that followed after her.

Taeyeon continued to run and rounded a corner to an empty parking lot where she threw her right hand into the air. Her metal staff suddenly appeared in her hand extended ready for battle. As soon as she saw a few of the men show up, she quickly set out an attack.

"Lantern Firebomb!" she swung her staff in the direction of the men and an orange glow moved from her hands to the star. As the glow made it to the tip of the star, it passed onto the air and became orange energy that formed into a large orange jack-o-lantern. The large ball of energy flew through the air and directly hit one of the men which caused an explosion large enough to knock back whoever was near him. However, it was not enough to knock down the rest of the people behind them. She casted another attack for the rest of the men, but it nearly failed when she had to stop charging the attack as something nearly flew right by her head. The attack was weak, but it bought her some time to gain some distance.

Except, when she turned to get away something hit the back of her legs and tripped her. Her staff flew out of her hand and she could hear the men charging towards her. She crawled as fast as she could to get her staff back, but she knew that she would get hurt before she even took hold of her weapon.

"Palm Blast!" a loud familiar voice cried out. Taeyeon grabbed her staff and rolled onto her back to see the man that was about to attack her had been blown away. She looked up to see someone standing in front of her with a staff in their left hand. The person’s staff looked identical to hers since the metal rod was black with a silver end cap, but the pendant at the end looked to emulate a bolt of electricity with a teal outline.

“A Fire Chaser?” Taeyeon quietly asked to no one when she saw two balls of fire, deemed as chasers, just circle the pendant of the other staff.

“Taeyeon-ah, are you okay?” another familiar voice asked her. Taeyeon turned to her right and saw Jessica kneeling beside her. She saw the concern on the girl’s face, but the only thing that registered on her mind was the other mage in front of her.

“Chaser Press!”

“Come on, let’s get out of here,” Jessica stated. Taeyeon held onto her staff as Jessica hooked an arm beneath her legs and picked her up. She turned to the mage in front of them and watched them lift their staff up above their head before slamming it towards the ground. The Fire Chasers around the staff hit the ground first and caused an explosion directed to the group of men which immediately knocked them out.

“Let’s go,” the mage stated as she turned around to face the other two.

“Sunny-ah?” Taeyeon narrowed her eyes at the girl in front of her. Sunny was still wearing her pyjamas, but she had a mage’s staff.

“Sunny, they’re getting back onto their feet,” Jessica pointed out as she saw the group of men about to take to their feet.

“I guess I need more chasers,” Sunny muttered as she held her staff out in front of her and three balls of light started to circle around the pendant with what looked to be three more being generated. White light started to glow around the girl’s hands and staff, if not her entire being, and Taeyeon knew that she was charging the attack for a devastating result.

“Sunny, hurry,” Jessica called out as the group started to run towards them. She stared at the back of the shorter girl and saw her unmoved by her words. “Sunny...” The men were gaining ground as they headed towards them and Sunny was still frozen in her spot. “Any time now... Sunny!”

“Chaser Press!”

Taeyeon and Jessica watched as Sunny hammered her staff back to the ground and all the Light Chasers exploded on contact with the pavement. The explosion was strong enough to send everyone in its path flying several feet away, bright enough that someone had to have seen it, and loud enough that all of Seoul must have heard it. All three of them stared at the group of fallen men with hopes that they were completely put down into submission. No one seemed to move.

Suddenly, a bright blue light started to appear from the ground and the blue seal started to expand to encompass the entirety of the group. Wisps of black smoke started to rise from the bodies and fall into the seal. Not a single wisp of black smoke escaped the seal and it seemed that the seal was intent on taking back whatever seemed to have escaped it to begin with. Slowly, the seal started to dim in brightness and fade from sight.

“Let’s go, someone might find us if we don’t leave,” Sunny stated as she waved her staff in the air and had her staff return to its original short rod form. She took off down the parking lot back to their dorm when she made sure Jessica was following her with Taeyeon.
