1. Something In Her Past 2. Who Is She And Why Do You All Know Her? 3. It'll Be Okay 4. Her Family 5. Let's Play Some Basketball Natalia glanced down at her wristwatch and realized that they had been sitting on the hood of her car for at least half an hour since they arrived. She knew that Krista would be a little uneasy with the new arrangement since the other woman was forced to accept it.
She was surprised when Frank asked her to take Krista in instead of Olivia, and she saw the shock that crossed Olivia’s face when Frank had asked. Initially, she wanted to say no, but Frank presented good reasons as to why she should take in Krista and not Olivia. He said that it made more sense if the young woman lived with her because there was no more room left in the boarding house (Krista would have no personal space left), staying at the Beacon was risky because of how close the Alan was to that place, and he trusted her to take care of Krista until she was through with her community service as well as rehabilitating her back to good health. The only truly driving reason she decided to take in Krista was Alan. If Alan Spaulding had some kind of personal vendetta against Krista, she wanted to protect her from him. There was also the fact that Krista was Olivia’s sister. That made her family now.
Natalia looked over at Krista and saw the anxiety in her face as she stared off towards the farmhouse. Despite the odd proposition, she actually wanted to take in Krista for the sake of knowing who she was. Olivia seemed to have failed to communicate anything about this woman with her and it seemed to Natalia that had quite a past, especially during their revealing quarrel in the hospital.
“Hey, what are you doing out here?” Both Natalia and Krista turned their gazes in the direction of the voice to their left. Natalia smiled as Rafe walked up towards them even though he wore a confused look. She moved from the hood of her car to her son and grabbed his hand as she made him walk faster.
“Raphael, this is Olivia’s half-sister Krista Tolentino. Krista, this is my son, Raphael.” Krista half-smiled at the young man in front of her and extended her free hand to him. She watched as he reluctantly extended his own hand, took hers and shook it.
“You can call me Rafe - you’re Olivia’s sister?” Rafe continued to hold onto Krista’s hand as he scrutinized the other woman’s appearance. He was fascinated as to why the other woman looked as if she partook in a bar fight and survived to tell the tale, but he was more fascinated by the fact that she was related to Olivia and looked nothing like her.
“Yeah, half-sister; I took after my mother. It’s nice to meet you, Rafe.”
“Yeah, you too...” Natalia looked between her son and Krista and immediately started having doubts with the arrangement she had yet to announce. She nervously laughed as she reached out and separated Krista and Rafe’s hands. “So, what brings you here?”
“Krista’s actually moving in with us,” Natalia answered as she looked at her son, trying to gauge his expression. She saw his face go blank, then confused and eventually a somewhat flirty smile made its way onto his face.
“Unavailable, sorry man,” Krista smirked as she saw Rafe’s smile falter.
“So, you’re going to be moving into Olivia’s old room?” The question caught Krista off-guard. She turned to Natalia and saw the flustered look on her face.
“Apparently,” Krista sighed as she moved off of the hood.
“Hey, why don’t you get Krista’s suitcase in the trunk and show her around?” Rafe immediately took off to the trunk of the car and waited for it to be opened. Natalia shook her head as she tossed her keys to Rafe and watched him open the trunk. She quietly laughed when she saw how much he struggled trying to pull the suitcase out.
“Whoa, what’s in here, a dead body?” Rafe asked as he nearly dropped the suitcase on his foot before he shut the trunk, soundly. He wheeled the piece of luggage back to the two women, handed his mother her keys and motioned for Krista to follow him. Krista raised an eyebrow before she sighed in amusement and followed Rafe to the house.
“This is going to be an interesting combination,” Natalia muttered under her breath while she watched her son become a little too excited over the new tenant. She was making a mental note about keeping an eye on those two just in case anything spiralled out of control, when her cell phone started to ring. She pulled out her cell phone from her purse and smiled when she saw the name. “Hey Olivia, are you having trouble at the office?” Natalia joked into her phone while she opened a door to the backseat of her car.
“Hello Natalia, as a matter of fact I’m doing quite well, thank you. How are you?”
“I’m doing perfectly well since the last time we spoke,” Natalia answered back as she reached into her car for Krista’s other piece of luggage. “What about you?”
“I’m doing well, a little aggravated, but all is good. How’s Krista? I hope she isn’t giving you any trouble.” Natalia held her cell phone against her ear with her shoulder as she tried to pull the bag from inside her car; Frank made it look so easy earlier when he placed it inside, but then again his face had started to turn as blue when he tried to move the suitcase that found itself in the trunk.
“Krista’s doing well, she’s not giving me any trouble,” Natalia answered back as she grabbed the handle of the bag with both hands. She firmly planted her feet on the ground and hauled the bag out of her car, only to stumble back. She grunted when she fell to the ground with the bag in her lap.
“Natalia, are you okay?” Olivia’s voice was laced with curiosity when she heard the other woman sounds. It sounded like hard labor. She kinda liked it.
Natalia sighed deeply as she leaned on the large bag in her lap. She managed to keep her phone against her ear, which more than amused her. “I’m perfectly fine; Krista doesn’t pack light does she?” She heard a quiet chuckle through the line and waited for a response.
“Last time I checked, no; she reminds me of a certain someone…” Natalia giggled at the answer and knew that Olivia was referring to their spa weekend. “So...”
“So...”
“What happens to us now?” Natalia furrowed her brow at the question.
“What do you mean, what happens to us now?”
“Natalia, my sister is living in your house now and that kind of crosses out the idea of me and Emma moving back in; there’s no room left in that house. I’m also thinking,” Olivia hesitated “that most of your time will be placed on Krista because she is kinda outta commission with the injuries. That and she’s technically an ex-criminal-“
“Olivia... what’s your point?” Natalia interjected, believing that Olivia was about to go into a rant.
“My point is: Natalia, my sister appeared out of nowhere and suddenly landed in the middle of our relationship.”
“Are you implying that she’s a problem?” Natalia was confused. What kind of opinion did Olivia actually have of her sister?
“Well, she doesn’t really want to see me, for one thing and I think Frank implied that you’d keep an eye on Krista while she lives with you - he trusts you to make sure Krista doesn’t get into trouble with Alan again because that’s the last thing anyone wants or needs; those two at each other’s throats.” Natalia could hear Olivia shake her head through the phone.
“All in all, yes, I do think that Krista might be a problem because as much as I love her... her timing could be better. I have to get going, I have a conference call. Bye.” Natalia flinched when the line suddenly died. She dropped her phone onto her lap and stared at it before she buried her face into Krista’s bag.
“This is going to be an interesting combination.”
