Here is an article about the games I played, and saw at Constitution.
The bits I enjoyed most of all were actually playing games. As soon as I arrived I met up with two people I had been to a convention with - at the same site nineteen years ago.
major_clanger,
purplecthulhu, and I all went to a particular London University roughly that time ago, and it was only fitting that we played a game about the London
Underground. (The designer was at the con too and spotted us playing).
I like learning new games by watching them in progress with experienced players. To that end I watched
Ra again. This is a bidding/auction game with an ancient Egyptian theme.
There were quite a few role playing games and quite a few table top war games of various sorts. I avoided both types of games. I saw the
Battlestar Galactica Game but didnt watch it in detail. The verdict seems to be that it is quite good, but it looks too complex to me.
I did however spend some time playing
Race For The Galaxy. This was a bit silly since I have it and
annafdd and I play it a lot. I played it with the first expansion (but without the extra goals), and with the second expansion too. The person who had brought it had put the cards in snug plastic wallets. I didnt expect this to work very well so had never tried it myself. But the dealer room had similar "Individual Card Sleeves" which looked the right size and much cheaper than I expected. I've put them on my set and they are about three millimetres too tall. I dont think that will be a problem.
I also got to play
Snatch with a few people. I think most everyone liked it - even the people who walked past suggesting words without playing a full game. I have to admit though that I totally thrashed
jimtrash and Carrie (WINOLJ?) by the strategy of not being totally pissed and tired at the same time.
I decided to buy a game which I liked because I only know one person near me who has it,
mikejansmike. Also
annafdd tried to buy it for Christmas... Yep I now own a set of
Dominion. This is kind of like a collectable card game - except that all the cards you need come in one box - so you fork out 35 quid all at once for 500 cards instead of buying booster packs for the rest of your life.
