Please take a moment and read my little story. This isn't a forward - this is real.
My mom worked with a man for many years who she had become friends with. When I was growing up and would go into work with my mom, he sat in the office next to hers, and we would chat a lot. My mom found out last year that he had gotten engaged to his long-time sweetheart, and they subsequently got married recently. Mom called to tell him that she hoped he had gotten her quite a rock, since she waited around for him for so long. Every year she played a practical joke on him for April Fools - probably for about the last 15 years.
Aprils Fools this year would be the last time they would ever speak.
He died yesterday on his way home from work in a car accident. He was driving home and swerved to avoid a tree limb in the road, and with the slick conditions, he flipped his car and died on impact. He wasn't wearing his seatbelt. Al was a safe driver - he had even taken a driving class especially for driving in wet conditions, since we do live in Wisconsin and he was a very cautious person with a lot to live for - he had a son and a new wife. He didn't have his seatbelt on, I'm sure, because he only lived about 5 minutes from work.
This is my plea to you - PLEASE wear your seatbelt, even if you are just crossing the street or just running to the store for a gallon of milk. Yesterday on my way home, I didn't wear mine (for the first time in months) just because I forgot. I won't forget again.
Also, please know that as a passenger in my car, you will always be asked to wear your seatbelt.
