Despite my nerves, I think it all went pretty well! It always feels uncomfortable when you start at a new place - like you're some interloper trying to force your way into a clique who have their own language. But my team, and everyone else for that matter, was very welcoming, and by the end of the day the feeling of strangeness was receding to some extent. Boy am I glad that this is my second internship though, otherwise I think I would have felt a lot more overwhelmed. The three researchers on my team - the International Team - were all particularly busy today, so I was given a pretty brief intorduction to the work they are doing and then I was thrown into it straight away. Not that that is a bad thing - it's going to be a challenge, but also so interesting. Tomorrow for example, I get to pull out my LSE alumni card and head over to the library there to do some research on political developments in the Middle East. I always complain about not being in school, and here's my chance to go back. It's so cool - I love that I get to be involved in research of these types of issues, and it's exciting that the organisation is so well connected to the government and actually has an opportunity to influence policy. That is, what's left of the government since Tony Blair took a mixing spoon to Cabinet and forced them to play musical chairs ;)

So as first days go it was good, and I'm looking forward to going back tomorrow without those nasty first day jitters. And now back to your regularly scheduled fandom rants! I've been on an icon kick lately, so I have more Once and Again and House icons to share. Including a bunch of 'Three Stories' icons because that episode just rocked so hard when I rewatched it last night. Totally remember why I flipped out over it the first time around!
