and the end result is....

I should be one short of pissing fire this morning, but I am not. Actually if anything I am more surprised, somewhat disappointed and yet slightly optimistic ( Read more... )

Labour needs to accept that Scotland is now a lost cause. It is now almost inevitable (depending on how cleverly the Tories play the game(1)) that Scotland will eventually exit the union.

Personally I think Dave C wanted a hung parliament because if the SNP caused the landslide like they did then it's going to make his life over the next few years "interesting". The last thing that he wants is the break up of the union on HIS watch after all. Under a Labour watch, utterly fine as with the ambiguity of a hung parliament maybe. However if the UK falls apart under the watch of the Tories then it will be something that they will never be able to live down, or that the English Public will forgive them for. Personally I look forward to the next few years as he tries to sell hardcore Thatcher crap to a Parliament where his Majority is 12, the SNP are watching from the opposition seats, and anything could be spark that sets up the chain reaction that will be the breakup of the UK.

In short today was 1992 all over again, next a repeat of the years 1993 to 1997! Have some popcorn ready!

As for Labour they could do no wrong by embracing an SNP grade slide to the left. The problem is that since Blair they became centre right rather than left. Sure that was fine when the tories fell to bits and where hardly credible for years, but crawling righter and righter just slowly eroded what core support they had. Now their Scottish heartlands have now all gone SNP, and up north likewise has utterly no trust in them. Add a boob like Ed Millibland and you have the prefect shit sandwich.

It's not that England is utterly right wing, if that where the case then UKIP would have more MP's. It's the considered lack of choice that's putting left wing voters off.

I mean what do you want Diet Tories (labour), Total Betrayal (Lib Dems), or Occasionally Nuttier than Squirrel Shit (the Greens)?

Keep the union talk low, be the opposite of whatever the tories are and point out all their failings (rather than go along with them, like the last Labour position did), then people might see change and a reason to vote red again.

I do not agree. I think England is an unashamedly right wing nation now. I quite simply do not belong here. Labour will never sniff power again, until they become Tory lite again. Loganberrybunny has said it; Blair has said it; My own father has said it.

I do not like it. In fact I detest it. But it is harsh electoral arithmetic.
