Варуфакис пишет в своей книге "Глобальный минотавр", что-де Бреттон-Вудская система с привязкой валют к доллару, а доллара к золоту формально кончилась с отправкой французского военного корабля, который собирался обменять доллары на золото.

President Nixon was absolutely livid, Four days later, on 15 August 1971, he announced the effective end of Bretton Woods: the dollar would no longer be convertible to gold.
