What a week...

Apr 13, 2006 10:11

So, it’s been an eventful week or two.

First off, my mom and Grandma were on CTV last night, being interviewed for Grandma’s big trip to have tea with the Queen on their shared birthday. Both the queen and my royal Grandmother were born April 21, 1926. There’s only one other couple from Canada attending the reception, so I’m very happy for her and my Grandfather.

Secondly, I’ve have been published several times in the Dalhousie Gazette now, making me, after today, if all goes well, a “Staff contributor.” Absolutely none of it has any real journalistic merit, they are mainly just me rambling inanely, with half the good parts edited out. Should anyone be interested, I’ve been going under the pseudonym “Johnny Action,” and issues of the paper can be found online at www.dalgazette.ca

Thirdly, I can openly confirm that I’m doing honours this coming school year, with Professor Mitchell, my #1 choice. I can’t wait, he’s already been talking about how I should maybe look into a three-pronged Crusader-Muslim-Mongol study. I can’t wait.

Fourthly, I will be going away this summer for a month. Somehow, out of the blue(and my mom wonderful ability to pass on news when I do things well...), I got a job offer to work in a study programme for high school students at Cambridge University as the “Deputy Staff Director.” Essentially, it is a dream job. They are giving me room, board, tickets to all sorts of crazy attractions from West End plays to medieval castles, (and yes, even to Stonehenge) transportation on their cushy buses, and a free $2000 trip to Paris at the end. Also they are paying me 3X as much as I make here to run day camps, and the head of the programme is working at getting me a special pass to use the library so I can get a head start on my honours. My sister Katie is going on the programme as a student (as I did three years ago) and they are tacking on an extra three days of free time for her so she can come with me to the earlier staff planning sessions, as well as throwing in a free trip to Paris for her as well. Even the major downside to it all, being away from Shannon for a month, is going to be somewhat lessened, as she has a really, really cool trip of her own being planned out; I’ll still miss her like crazy, but at least I’ll be able to rest easier knowing she’ll be having a blast this summer. I’ll leave her to fill in the details of that on her LJ though, lol, I won’t steal her thunder!

Four exams still stand between me and freedom however, so I believe it would be best if I returned to studying, as ridiculously difficult as that is.

One last note, to Kelly, I hope you enjoy your Easter trip!

Good day my friends!
