Weird to think that ten years ago I'd been in college for a few weeks only. It feels like so much has happened in the last decade, that I'm not the same person I was at eighteen.
Well. I'm probably not. :) I went to college, learned about life the Berkeley way, met a man, married him, changed the entire direction of my career goals -- twice, lived in a foreign country for three years, adopted first one, then two, then three cats, have learned how to feel moderately comfortable teaching a group of students, bought two new cellos (including a very old one), given a lot of performances, written a lot of papers, discovered the joys and perils of academic conferences as well as academic mailing lists, and finally gotten over some of my teenage angsts.
For some reason, today I'm feeling very introspective. Probably because I just sent off the official first draft of my dissertation proposal to my committee, and I have one of those "OH MY GOD THIS IS REALLY MY LIFE I'M ACTUALLY STANDING AT THIS CROSSROADS AND CHOOSING A DIRECTION." It's pretty cool.
