Someone once said that "the grass is much greener on the other side." The more I think about it, the more truth I see in it. As humans we always crave what we can't have. We always want to do what we're not allowed to. And most of all, we always want to be what we are not. I do realize that sometimes this is valid, that sometimes it works as an auxiliary in reaching one's goals. But what about those other times, when people just get stuck on these ambiguous daydreams and never wake up? I wish that a magic wand could make everything alright, but we have to face reality, and that is that we need to wake up and see ourselves for who we really are.

You may be a singer, an actress, a songwriter, someone famous. You may be a princess, a member of the elite, a socialite. You may be a baker, a business woman, an accountant, or an actuary. The truth is that when you step aside and look at yourself, and all that you have, you may appreciate life so much more. Because it's the simple things in life that really count. Things as small as walking to work every morning, or watching a child play. Things like baking cookies or taking snapshots. If we all stepped back and looked at all these things we are able to do, all the things that we do have, instead of wishing for more, wouldn't our minds be so much more at peace?

In English we call in "counting our blessings." In Danish, there are no words for it. Not that I've learned anyway. Maybe it's simply because Danes do it all the time. They take life so much more slowly here. They appreciate the red flowers on the street, the blue water in the park fountain. And I'm glad for that. I just think that everyone should do it more often. Take a day off, step back, and relax. Look at your life and all that you've got. It may not be much, or it may be a lot. But at least you've got something. And that, is worth everything.
