I always find Ingmar Bergman’s films haunting, but “Persona” just would not let me go at all. I watched it on Monday and I keep thinking about it again and again. It is not that it is complicated. It is quite a short film, actually. It just made me think about so many things. And not all of them are inside my “comfort zone”.
A film is about relationship of two women - an ill actress who refuses to speak and her nurse. Like other Bergman’s films it doesn’t shy away from difficult themes and is a little shocking for me in places. But how beautiful the cinematography is! And how unusual but iconic actresses are! Liv Ulmann, Bergman’s lover is probably one of the most beautiful women I know. She is just WOW!
I thought that this film was about the different parts of our personality, how they fight and the stronger but not always better one wins. And also about relationships we build one with another, how we control and hurt each other. How everything at the end is egoistic and selfish. We are built this way. It is our safety mechanism, but with it we destroy each other.
I watched a little of “Casanova” with David Tennant and it is not entirely my cup of tea. David is sort of cute, but a touch too silly for me at times. The big plus is of course is that I didn’t notice before how blue his eyes are. I am back to worrying about new season of Dr. Who. ;(. Don’t worry, I am a worrier!
And I am back to work. It is lunch-time and I have got stacks to do which I was putting to one side during the Project time. Good job I like doing this stuff, otherwise it would have quickly driven me mad ;). But - My beautiful Amaryllis was waiting for me at the office! All double-flowers, white with some pink inside.
Biggest question is - when is it going to get WARM outside?
** I used this icon because it is black-and-white and "Persona" is black-and-white ;)
